Happy to announce that I have been nominated for Dutch Design Awards 2024 spotlighted by Dae Uk Kim and I will be presenting my work during Dutch Design Week Eindhoven, Netherlands.

"Loan Favan is a jewellery designer from New Caledonia. Her work draws inspiration from her heritage, paying homage to ancestral Pacific traditions. She designs wearable and statement art pieces: artefacts intricately shaped around bodily explorations and resembling anatomical implants. Her work draws inspiration from futuristic scenarios, indigenous traditions and body explorations. Blurring the line between ritual body modification and the hybridity of the cyborg, she employs metal as a conduit between traditional craftsmanship and the identity of the future human. Loan’s work embodies the spirits and mystical powers of the island for the posthuman. She blends indigeneity and futurism into outspoken visual manifestations."

The pendant of our NIDRA ring draws inspiration from the chambranle, totems placed by the side of traditional huts in New Caledonia. The pendant piece, measuring 4cm in length, is crafted entirely from sterling silver and is attached to a minimal square wire. This ring serves as a statement piece, standing out on your finger with its distinctive shape.

inspired by the look 2 of TANEM FUIJA: LAEF OLBAOT which is inspired by the Tardigrade; an animal capable of withstanding extreme environments (surviving from -273°C to +340°C). HUK I shapes take reference in the horn shapes of the monumental look.
HUK I pendant is 10x22 mm with 3mm resin in the middle on 45 cm chain. Bold and spikey, this piece showcases a unique mix of shiny reflective metal and clear resin, resulting in an original and distinctive blend. The necklace chain combines boa and snake chains in a sleek and stylish manner. HUK means “fish hook” in Bichlamar, Vanuatu.

These earrings are inspired by the Spears of New Caledonia, which were used both for hunting or ceremonial purposes. CĀC is a straight spiky earring. CĀC means “spear” in Kanak dialect (New Caledonia).

The KATEM ring is a wearable translation inspired by the look 1 of TANEM FUIJA

KATEM shapes take reference in the inside tail shapes of the monumental look PLANEM RUS. KATEM regular stands at 20mm high with 20mm spikes. It features a daring design with sharp extending tails, creating an aggressive and edgy detail that almost resembles a weapon. The name KATEM means “cut” in Bichlamar, a language spoken in Vanuatu.

This earring is inspired by the the flèches faîtières of New Caledonia (arrow sculptures), wooden sculptures standing on top of the huts cases of the tribes chiefs. We believe that they are a portal to the other world and can guide our spirits. HNADA means « first » in Kanak (New Caledonia). A reminder of what motivates me to create, my island.
