This World Environment Day we are saying no to plastic pollution and yes to finding lasting solutions together.

In India alone, it is estimated that 15million tonnes of plastic waste is produced each year and only 25% of this is recycled, due to the lack of an effective waste management system. This leads to high levels of plastic waste pollution and poor living and working conditions for millions of informal waste workers, many of whom are women and youth.

A reality which must change and is where our FINILOOP programme steps in.

FINIILOOP is working in partnership with cities and informal waste workers to build more effective waste management systems. The programme brings together services and individuals along the entire waste value chain from the everyday person generating waste, to a new recycled product being created. All helping to ensure the livelihoods of informal waste workers are improved and plastic leakage into the environment is reduced.

Join us over June as we showcase local plastic waste heroes within FINILOOP who are committed to building plastic waste free cities, cleaner environments and sustainable livelihoods for all. In the meantime find out more about FINILOOP here: www.waste.nl/cases/finiloop/

Escaping the "headache zone" | News 05/09/2022

"One of the most pressing problems with trying to achieve is still the finance gap. Worsened by falling global investments due to COVID-19 pandemic, financial constraints still seem to be one, if not the, major obstacle when it comes to solving global water problems...To make things worse, the positive social impacts these enterprises frequently create are difficult to capture financially. Too small and too big at the same time they end up in a “headache zone” – the soft middle, out of which it is difficult to escape."
