RAM is closed for the summer, but not for holidays! We are taking the opportunity to polish our floors so that when we open on august 15 with an exhibition of Mingshu Li the space will look shiny and beautiful! 🤩

What is painting? That has been debated for centuries, as the definition of the painting medium has changed radically by modernism and postmodernism. Artist Kiyoshi Yamamoto has created works that can be used as shawls but are in fact silk fabric hand painted with chemical dyes. Each work is unique and is 65 x 65 cm approx. From Thursday they can be viewed and acquired from our gallery.
Thursday we open a magnificent exhibition with Matilde Westavik Gaustad, entitled Boiling Blood, Burning Heart. The exhibition consists of four monumental tapestries and a video work. Welcome to the opening 6-8 pm! .wg
We are happy to announce the recent acquisition of two works by Inger Blix Kvammen. The works ‘Boddu’ and ‘Bahkadit’ are grounded in Sami cultural heritage and the artist’s own family history. They will now enter the collection of the National Museum of Norway.
We are very happy that the work Objekt XX by Ingrid Larssen was acquired by Kode art museum through the Craft Acquisition Fund! It is still on view at RAM until Saturday 18th of May.
Solveig Ovanger creates works made of various fish skins from the North sea, carefully tanned and dyed with natural pigments. The work Hemisphere (2020) has a scale pattern based on the Fibonacci sequence, a mathematical sequence in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers. This formula appears in biological nature, for example in the formation of artichoke flowers or Pine cones.
Congratulations to Morten Haugmo for having been awarded the Østutstillingen prize of 2024 with the work The Loomers, which was first shown at RAM in 2022.
The exhibition REMEMBER THE FUTURE, with Inger Blix Kvammen, Ingrid Larssen & Solveig Ovanger is on view until 18th of May.
Ingrid Larssen, Hud (Skin), is made of silk dyed with plant pigments from common herbs that were traditionally used for their medicinal properties: Mjødurt (Meadowsweet), Cow parsley (Hundkjeks) and Bird’s foot trefoil (tiriltunge). On view at RAM until May 18th.
Artist Inger Blix Kvammen gave this work the humorous title ‘Sámi Chanel No. 5’, because the braid is made of a special grass popularly known as ‘luktegress’, or ‘smelling grass’, which has a naturally pleasant aroma. According to the artist, it was often used by sámi people as a deodorant, worn close to the body after a day of hard work. On view at RAM until May 18th.
The sea provides both nourishment and necessary materials for the Sámi and Kven peoples who traditionally inhabited the coastline of the Barents region. Solveig Ovanger and Ingrid Larssen also celebrate the beauty of the world under the sea with these stunning works that are on view in the exhibition REMEMBER THE FUTURE, at RAM until May 18th.
