West Bengal forest department thwarted a cross-border wildlife smuggling attempt, arresting two Bangladeshi nationals with around 1,500 Indian softshell turtles and an Alexandrine parakeet, considered threatened on IUCN Red List, near North 24 Parganas’ Bongaon on Indo-Bangla border on Saturday night.

Eight people have been arrested in Chitwan National Park along with two rhino horns. The horns are believed to be of the two rhinos that were killed on November 16.

Forest Division officials in Nagpur have arrested a city Ayurvedic medicine trader for possessing organs and body parts of wildlife animals. The officials seized 18 ‘hatha jodi’ (dried copulatory organs of monitor lizards), 11 sea fans and four sandfish skinks from the trader, according to reports.
