Today, the Aiki Jinja Rei Taisai will be celebrated at the Aiki Jinja and Ibaraki Shibu Dōjō (formally the Aiki Shūren Dōjō) in Iwama. This is the annual grand festival of the Aiki Shrine, honouring the forty two tutelary kami enshrined there as well as Ueshiba O-Sensei and the second Dōshu, Ueshiba Kisshomaru. For a few hours today, the normally sleepy town will host a huge influx of visitors from all around Japan and abroad as they gather to celebrate at the spiritual home of Aikidō. With our dōjō's roots firmly set in the earth of Iwama, we join them in celebrating our shared heritage.

We're celebrating our 30th anniversary at the end of the month and we'd love to have you join us if you can. Especially looking forward to seeing some of the faces from the past three decades who may not have been on the mat in a while!

I'm turning 60, I don't know why, and to celebrate in an aiki-way I'd like to take a casual Aikido Auckland Seishinkan REUNION/REVIVAL CLASS on Wednesday 31 January, 6pm to 7pm and 7pm to 8pm. Over many years I've enjoyed training with hundreds and hundreds of lovely people, some now gone out of Auckland, others out of the country, and a few sadly further still. But for the rest, please pull out that old dogi (or a t shirt), and step back onto the mat once more for me! Meet friendly people, new or old, chat to them, hurl them to the floor or poke them with a stick. All ages and levels of fitness. Current members are of course also very welcome.

Hutt Japan Day is on rain or shine this Sunday!

🌤The weather forecast for this Sunday is starting to improve and we remain hopeful of great weather to celebrate Hutt Japan Day. But just in case here is our 🌧 weather plan:

☑️Both our Market in the Dowse Art Museum and Main Stage in the Town Hall are indoors and will run as planned no matter what the weather throws at us.

🥋The performances scheduled for outside may need to be cancelled. However, all groups scheduled to perform outside on Dowse Square also perform on the Main Stage in the Town Hall. Check out the performance schedules here: https://www.huttminoh.org.nz/performance-scedules

🍣Our brave Food Vendors will need to remain on Dowse Square, so bring a jacket to keep dry and warm while you wait for your tasty Japanese delicacies. We will move some seating indoors for you to enjoy your food.
