๐ The 2023 World Happiness Report is out, here are some of the key highlights:
Top countries: The report once again showcases the Nordic countries dominating the list, with retaining the title as the happiest nation according to this report (for the 6th year running). The top 5 also includes Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, and the Netherlands. New Zealand sits at No.10. Data was gathered prior to our recent weather events though!
Positive impact of social support: The report emphasises the role of strong social connections in contributing to people's happiness. Countries with high levels of trust and social support tend to have happier citizens.
Mental health focus: Mental health emerged as a significant factor in determining happiness levels. The report suggests that investing in mental health services and support systems can greatly enhance overall well-being.
Importance of work-life balance: The study highlights the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Countries that prioritize well-being and offer flexible working conditions report higher happiness scores.
Environmental factors: The report also stresses the relationship between happiness and the environment. Countries that are actively addressing climate change and working towards sustainable practices demonstrate improved happiness levels among their citizens.
Stay at the top of the cliff - be proactive in maintaining these factors in your life!

Co- regulation comes before self-regulation.
This means we have to show our kids how to regulate their emotions by being with them in a calm manner so they can work through and process their feelings rather than get overwhelmed by them.
"it takes a calm brain to calm a brain"
As a mum to 4 boys, this is my go-to self-talk script to help me to stay calm in the face of their chaos.

It's Thankful Thursday!
Among many things I'm grateful for being in this beautiful place to chat with some cool people from the NZBSA - New Zealand Boarding Schools Association.
Our chat was centred around how we might apply positive psychology for students and practitioners in boarding hostels. โค๏ธ
What are you Thankful for today?
I was privileged to spend time with some parents tonight as part of a wellbeing codesign process for a school.
One thing I forgot to say, as I wished the dads happy father's day was that I also wish a happy father's day to those solo mums, foster parents, grandparents, and men who are father figures without the official status.
I see you and thank you. Happy father's day!
