We're blessed to be here in New Zealand but it is hard for me 😔 and I think many of us we feel the same and to see how other countries are suffering around the world and these controversies should not be exist anymore.

Announcing a special Mexican Cooking Experience with Chef Silvia from Nanita's Tamales!

This unique experience will lead you through an encounter with the flavours, aromas, spices and the culture of Nanita's beloved Mexico and its flavourful cuisine.

You will be cooking authentic handmade corn tortillas (gluten free), salsas, guacamole, tostadas, and a main course of tacos (chicken, vegetarian, or vegan options), and a Mexican dessert tres leches.

Friday 7 July, 5pm - 8pm

Mexican traditions are full of colours and flavours. México is magic, mistic and full of Amor 💘 🇲🇽

"Día de los Mu***os"
(Nanita, 2022)

Día de los Mu***os, on my understanding as a native Mexican, is the mixed of two cultures... from the Spanish religious celebration on the 1st of November 'All Saints Day' and the 2nd of November 'All Souls Day'. Then when the Spaniards conquered my country their culture were mixed with our "Miquiztli" a mexican indigenous celebration of the deceased they went to a special place called "Mictlán" a type of heaven for the ancient mexicans.
I'm proud to be a Mexican and to have on my background the indigenous side on me from the 'Tlahuicas' tribe (Central Mexico).
A celebration of "Día de los Mu***os" is to remind more lively to our family members whom are somewhere around us and they still alive in our hearts! 💕 🙌🏼
We place an 'ofrenda' or an 'Altar de Mu***os' where we put photos of them, the things they used to like when they were here and is scential to place symbols of elements of Earth:
🌬 Wind ~ represented by the 'papel picado'
🔥 Fire ~ presented on the lighted candles and aromatic copal incense
💧 Water ~ presented in bowls and jars
🌱 Earth ~ present on the seasonal fruits as oranges, mandarins, sugar cane, candied pumpkin, and traditional food offered to our beloved ones: Pan de Mu**to, dulce de calabaza, mole, tamales, calaveras de azúcar. Important to put oil in a little bowl and salt so their new life will never be flavourless.

Nothing compared with the Halloween! No way. We can just make our make-up as Sugar Skulls or Catrinas, nothing scarry or dark.

Día de los Mu***os, is a special day for many of us as mexicans and even more when we're living far from our homeland, as we try to remind together as a cultural community.
I'm proud of trying to sustain my culture in Aotearoa 🌿
through out the genuine mexican cuisine, so the new young generations who are here, don't lose their cultural roots.👩🏻‍🍳 🇲🇽
