It’s always a surreal feeling seeing a logo transition from digital design to real-world application.

In 2021, Nicola approached me with a vision for Elevate—a community focused on personal growth and wellbeing. We designed the logo with a bold typeface and a ‘+’ to symbolise continual improvement. The pillars in the brand-mark represent the range of services offered, from workout programs to nutrition plans, all aimed at helping individuals elevate their lives.

Seeing this design come to life in various forms over the years is truly fulfilling.

Logo Design for Bridge City Snaps ⁠

Rare Studio had the pleasure of teaming up with Bridge City Snaps, an epic vintage headwear distributor, to create a logo that truly reflects their unique brand and leaves a lasting impression. Our goal was to not only catch the eye of their customers and clients but also to help establish a strong and distinctive brand identity, tailored just for them.⁠

Drawing inspiration from one of the owner's passions and the common connection between NBA teams' logos which can often be seen on snapbacks across the world, the design of the logo was subtly influenced by the NBA league and their iconic basketball jerseys. This added a touch of familiarity and nostalgia to their brand, making it even more memorable and appealing to their target audience.⁠

Bridge City Snap's package included all the essentials to kickstart their business journey and lay a solid foundation for their brand, including a custom colour palette and and typography that resonates with the brand's personality.⁠

Album Artwork Assistance + Photography for Moses Mackay

In the world of creativity, a remarkable journey unfolded as we embarked on a project involving album artwork assistance and photography with none other than the talented Moses Mackay, one-third of the celebrated musical trio SOL3 MIO.

Over the span of three months, alongside Done By Agency, we had the privilege of closely collaborating with Moses as he embarked on his solo journey. The adventure included being right by his side during the press releases for his single and debut album, and it was truly an incredible experience. Witnessing Moses pour his heart and soul into his music was nothing short of inspiring, and it was an absolute pleasure to be part of his journey, capturing some of those extraordinary moments.

Moses' debut album, "Grace," didn't just make waves in the music scene; it shot straight to the #1 position on both the Official Top 40 Albums and NZ Top 20 Album Charts! This achievement is a testament to Moses' exceptional talent.

SEMI PERMANENT AOTEAROA 2023 ——

Semi Permanent

I recently had the privilege of immersing myself in the ambiance of Semi Permanent Aotearoa 2024, and its impact on my creative journey has been truly transformative.

After launching Rare Studio less than a month ago, my foray into the world of graphic design has been a remarkable adventure fuelled by the incredible support of both familiar faces and newfound connections. Stepping into Semi Permanent was not just attending a festival; it was a pivotal moment in my ongoing journey for growth and connection within the dynamic realm of creativity.

From the festival's commencement to its conclusion, Wellington metamorphosed into a captivating hub. The diverse range of keynote talks, panel discussions, workshops, and masterclasses offered a smorgasbord for the creative mind, encompassing various disciplines such as graphic and product design, game and motion design, fashion, illustration, publishing, visual art, digital and brand strategy, and business innovation.

The theme of 'Reformation' served as a guiding beacon throughout the event, challenging participants to reconsider, reimagine, and reshape the creative landscape. As I navigated through a sea of ideas and connected with fellow creatives, the impact on my creative perspective was profound. The festival impelled me to stretch my boundaries, urging me to explore new horizons and reconsider the possibilities within my work. The inspiration gathered during those three days has kindled a renewed sense of purpose and direction for Rare Studio.

Additionally, the connections made at Semi Permanent have become invaluable. Engaging with like-minded individuals, sharing experiences, and learning from others have added depth to my creative journey. The festival not only provided insight into the current state of the creative industry but also fostered a sense of community and collaboration that extends beyond its duration.

To those who have been part of my journey and to the vibrant creative community at Semi Permanent Aotearoa 2024, thank you for being the driving force behind this enriching experience. As I carry the lessons and inspiration forward, I'm eager to apply these newfound perspectives to elevate Rare Studio to new heights. The objective was to craft a visual identity that possessed enduring elegance and simplicity, while also setting it apart in the highly competitive field of social media management.

​Taking cues from the vibrant, approachable attributes of the former Soda Digital, we merged these elements with the sophisticated aesthetics of Done By. This fusion allowed us to preserve the company's distinctive personality and core essence while simultaneously positioning it within a more mature, esteemed, and credible market.
