✨ 5 Quick Tips for Healthy Teeth ✨ We sometimes forget to go back to basics when it comes to healthcare and specifically dental health . With the busyness of our lives we tend to choose convenience, which, a lot of the time can mean less nutrient dense food options consumed, less prioritisation on self care and higher intake of coffee and quick energy fixes. We encourage you to slow down for a moment and prioritise YOU and your health.

Today is World Environment Day, and at Bays Dental, this day holds significant importance on our calendar.

Dentistry, like the medical industry, relies heavily on single-use products, primarily for infection prevention and control. At Bays Dental, we've made strides in reducing our use of such products while maintaining stringent infection prevention measures. Our initiatives include:

-Using stainless steel autoclavable cups for rinsing.
-Segregating soft plastics for recycling.
-Decreasing the number of impressions taken and opting for digital models.
-Employing reusable autoclavable suction tips.
-Promoting toothpaste and toothbrush recycling through TerraCycle.
-Utilising biodegradable wipes and paper towels.
-Eliminating plastic liners from trays and substituting them with biodegradable paper towels, sanitized after each use.
-Encouraging digital online forms over paper forms at the clinic.

Though there's ongoing work behind the scenes, we've significantly reduced our general waste by implementing these small changes.

Here are some steps you can take at home to minimize dental-related waste:

-Opt for reusable items like stainless steel tongue scrapers.
-Switch to toothpaste in jars (check out this NZ brand: solidoralcare.co.nz).
-Bring your old toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes to the clinic for TerraCycle recycling.
-Use reusable straws to protect your teeth from acidic or sugary drinks.
-Consider using biodegradable toothbrushes.

We encourage you to recognize that while making large-scale changes may not be feasible, collective small changes can have a substantial impact. Join us in observing and share any innovative waste-reducing practices you undertake at home. Together, let's contribute to creating an eco-friendly dental industry.

This Sunday daylight savings ends, even though we are lucky these days that most of our smartphones do it all for us it’s just a reminder incase they don’t change over for any reason or you have a bedside clock that doesn’t change automatically.

Regularly servicing your teeth (getting check-ups and getting a scale and polish) can reduce the amount of invasive dental treatment you may need and could potentially save you lots of money, too. Failing to see the dentist yearly and leaving it for even 2 years before getting your teeth checked will generally result in higher costs due to small issues becoming costly problems. Patients often opt out of coming in for their yearly checkups because they have no pain and thus believe they have no issues. BUT with teeth, we generally don’t feel pain unless decay has already infiltrated the nerve or we have an infection, and what could have been a quick filling had likely become a larger, more expensive filling, root canal or even an extraction.

Much like a car, if we maintain it well it will generally cost us less in the long run and have less major issues.

That being said, if it has been a while since your last checkup don’t be embarrassed to come on in. We don't judge and will be more than happy to help and come up with a comprehensive treatment plan if needed. We also have interest free payment plans should you need it.

This year we are supporting an amazing local initiative to help women and children in need, in the lead up to Christmas. Where has this year gone?
With COVID lockdowns and everything going on it feels like we only just put our clocks back for winter and just like that it is spring! 🌸☀️

We are now OPEN for most procedures with additional safety protocols relevant to Level 3.
