Ok, I don't usually post about nutrition because I'm not a nutritionist despite knowing, I'm confident in saying, A LOT about inflammation stemming from food, on a chemical level.
So, I'm going to share a super cool finding about creatine!
I take creatine for cellular energy support, cognition and muscle support. It is essential for woman mid life to take it as they go through 'the change' and become faced with BMD, mood, sleep changes etc.
That is not what this is about.
When our cellular processes are having to adapt long term, creatine metabolism is physiologically essential for life (cell survival, growth, proliferation, differentiation, and migration/motility) by providing support of energy. Our bodies become stressed on a cellular level if it can not convert cellular energy to mechanical. It can cause inflammation and disease.
RIGHT. With that said....
Lets look at cancer and creatine.
T cells protect tissue from inflammatory damage. We want to minimize negative regulators of T-cell function. If we have a cancer cell, our CD8+ T cells need to expand. It has been shown that creatines directly assists in T cell homeostasis (stability) and for optimal T cell expansion in vitro and in vivo. (In vivo- research done on a living organism, in vitro- research done in a lab or test tube).
Yes it does get biochemical but simply put, creatine has a place over and above aesthetics. Creatine is for prevention, maintenance and management of health!
Very very cool!!!

While we train specific protocols to enhance the brain to muscle messaging and responses, we also practice coordination, balance to minimise falls and gait training.
Considerations when living with a blunted sensory awareness, is being unable to accurately evaluate what your body is doing and where your body is.
Rehab should include external cueing as research shows it elicits the most promise to normalise gait patterns and coordination.
Effective neurorehabilitation requires task-specific practice that should be varied, intensive, and driven by a combination of extrinsic movement goals and implicit knowledge of movement control
Below we have place an external unstable load to her weaker side. This forced a more quiet pathway to wake up and stabilise based on the performance of the DB. Too much swing, tone it down, tilting of the stick- work those muscles harder. It encouraged walking with a more level, square and stable pelvis on her own.
PROST-FIT Cambridge has a real team vibe. They come together, give each other stick, give each other support, give each other advice.
They love being in the Rehab gym at Body Performance Clinic because it's their training home. This is where progress is made, challenges are overcome. A safe space. A cosy space, where they can all hear each other because let's face it......some are like to say pardon a lot!

I'd like to introduce you to a symbol of commitment! Meet Trevor. He attends STRENGTHFit Wednesday 5.30pm for many reasons, but loves the group banter, vibe, and drive to push.
Now, Trevor forgot to put his gym bag in his car this morning so rocked up to the session disappointed but on the quest to solve his problem. In desperate need for distressing after his day, he decided to complete the session his jeans.
I of course advised against it squats and deep deficit lunges were on the menu, but he was determined to do what he could.
Fast forward to a rip here and a rip there post lunge, and all of a sudden our Trevor's wardrobe began to transform.
We want to take the time to thank Trevor for setting the standard for commitment and allowing us to have a giggle AND for me to take a photo! Proud of you mate.
I have been working with this MS champ since the end of last year. In that time she has experienced a LOT of education about how to get the best out of her body and why certain methods trump others.
Jumping, hopping, skipping, quick reaction explosive type skills are advanced for the best of us. Imagine what it feels like when the messages are slower to get through!
That's why I took this video. First time trying to skip holding the TRX and BAM she got it.
Quick actions require speed of information to send and receive as well as coordinating the response ie. becoming airborne. That's the neurological requirement, not to mention what the muscle actions are required to do as well!
Not only that since December she has increased her high knee stepping rate 125%!!!
I've been working with this fella since 2018 starting with MS Get A Head Start. He then went on to Neuro S & C. Here's what he has to say:
"As someone battling primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis for over twenty years - a large part of the fight is keeping myself active and as fit as I can be. Carrie and her Physiofit classes twice a week are a key part of my fitness journey. Both from a physical and mental perspective - Carrie's classes help tremendously!
I notice subtle improvements almost daily and this leads to an increase in self confidence! My fight sees me having to use two walking sticks to remain active and Physiofit helps me to be able to move with far less falls and a greater ability to function better. I also feel stronger which in turn leads to a general level of overall improvement.
I would recommend anyone with MS to seek out Carrie. You won't regret the decision. Her classes are not only good for you physically but you will enjoy meeting and exercising with others in a similar position to yourself"
I conduct movement screening and fitness tests, not only to quantify improvement for me but more importantly the client to see progress. In his last test phase the initial step up volume averaged 6 steps p/min. In his post phase test his step up score boosted to an avg of 14 step ups p/min!!!!
What the actual!!! Working hard or hardly working for this one. I'm not going to say its easy. But with consistency, effort and the right exercise prescription for your physiology, you WILL improve. Hands down.

Majority of my professional development comes from a medical council. I received this today which is an analysis of reviews about covid and exercise rehab.
"The WHO (World Health Org) defines post–COVID–19 condition (PCC) as 'the continuation or development of new symptoms three months after the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection, with these symptoms lasting at least two months with no other explanation.
This review examined respiratory training and exercise-based rehabilitation interventions for adults with PCC. Fourteen randomised clinical trials involving 1244 patients found moderate certainty evidence indicating that standardised rehabilitation interventions were associated with improvements in functional exercise capacity. However, a high level of uncertainty was observed concerning the probability of experiencing exercise-induced adverse events.
The recommendation was that health professionals closely monitor these patients while implementing such interventions to ensure patient safety until more definitive evidence is available."
In short, yes exercise therapy can improve your long covid/PCC symptoms but due to the complexities of the condition, choose a qualified health professional to monitor you. Good thing Clinical Exercise Physiologists exist!

I have been working with this stroke survivor and his buddy for over a year now and we had a moment of reflection today. Because progress is a journey not a destination it's important to remember where we started.
First we started with developing a relationship with their new body. Learning to create a reliable feedback system with them 'feeling their bodies' in many scenarios. After trauma and grief, this is essential.
We relearnt multiple movements such as reaching, hinging, weight shifting. We applied reaction timing and coordination to those movements in a fun way.
We looked at their fears such as falling, so we spent time learning to get up and down off the floor, balancing in the kneeling position and weight shifting on their knees.
The list goes on. Today, second session back for the year, I surprised them with a problem solving course to challenge everything so far. Being out in public is unpredictable so we practice that also.
Here we have hinging, reaching with his deficit arm and placing the ball on the cone. Both members walked in the clinic today and wanted to walk away BUT, this guy hung out in the ball section most of the session!
Completely fantastic!

I mentioned last week in session you will be having your capacity testing this week. That means......TONIGHT.
Please make sure youve got food on board 60-90mins before the session.
Lets smash some numbers!
AF and elevated LDL are almost certain precursors for stroke and will see you on stroke preventative medication like ARBs.
Keep yourself safe by knowing what your body is doing and doing what you can, lifestyle wise, to keep those precursors in check!
I usually DO NOT like walking, it's boring and time consuming.
BUT, while I track my steps daily and realise I was moving far less than I thought, I started walking 10000 steps daily.
If I had time, I'd do the lot in one hit. Otherwise, accumulation is equally as good because it meant I was looking for ways throughout the day to be more mobile.
There has been a few things I've come to love about walking.
1) spending time with my son, he comes too.
2) spending time in the sun, my total happy place, feeling and smelling the day is AMAZING
3) Ive seen so many interesting things around various parts of the town I ithwise wouldn't have noticed.
4) I feel less stressed with the above combined.
Fair to say, I dont mind a decent walk daily x
Had some space between clients today so decided to stay in house and chip away at my own program. Have recently fallen in love with weighted pull ups. Can't do many consecutively yet but 4 sets of 4 is a good place to start.
Wednesday night 5.30 is for STRENGTHFit! Little mate Jase has a pull up goal and likes to do workouts similar to Bruce Lee....why not?!
For the adults, being able to hold a dead hang is one thing, let alone pull up as well! But with lastnight we had 2 woman perform both. What were their feelings.......they felt taller afterwards hahaha
