MAURICE AND I - official trailer 02/07/2024

It's cold and wet outside - great film weather! Get along to the extended season of "Maurice and I" - at the Deluxe or (soon) Lumiere Cinemas. It's a great Christchurch story featuring amazing 1980s footage of Ōtautahi, plus appearances by UC's College House and archives from Macmillan Brown Library. If you lived through quake-era Christchurch, it's a must-see.

Te Tira: A Journal of Māori and Indigenous Leadership has just released it’s first article for Volume 2, 2024.

Te Tira is an open access journal publishing primarily the works produced by our students at UC in the Master's of Māori and Indigenous Leadership degree. The aim is to encourage high quality contributions from those students and to foster discussions among academics, policy-makers and community workers in the area of Indigenous leadership and Indigenous knowledges.

Our latest article is called ‘Reindigenisation in the context of psychotherapy and counselling’ by Brent Tohiariki (Te Whānau-ā-Apanui; Te Arawa (Tapuika))

Putanga | Issues · Te Tira: A Journal of Māori and Indigenous Leadership · UC Library Omeka This article articulates a therapeutic pathway centred in a reindigenisation construct, Puna, an indigenous-centric counselling approach. This model repositions counselling and psychotherapy away from the dominant western hegemonic reverberating with the binary of coloniser/colonised, recentering th...

Happy May Day! May 1st is International Workers Day, celebrated in many countries with a day off.
We might still have to work in Aotearoa, but it's a good day to browse Macmillan Brown Library's archive of Canterbury trade unions and workplaces. We hold papers and photographs from a variety of local unions dating back to the 19th century, such as the Cook's and Bakers' and the Tailors' Unions, seen here. And photos of local workers, such as the typing pool of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company and the iconic Edmonds' Baking Powder factory.
