So - we are thrilled that Deb (Powell) managed to make two of her gorgeous "bird ladies" especially to be shown alongside Tessa's pastels this weekend ...

"... As my work has developed over the last few years, I have moved from Hospice Shop finds to include more elaborate and extravagant objects in my compositions. Whether it is an eye-wateringly expensive little piece of Lalique, or a striking red Murano centrepiece, or just a quirkly little art deco budgie borrowed from a friend, they have all found their way onto the table with the birds, and we have made art together. All of these objects have touched me, whether it be by their age, the sense of story they carry with them, their fragility, beauty, colour, or character. It is an intuitive appeal and one I have learned to trust. It does not conform to any pre-conceived ideal but has become deliciously eclectic. So, at the same time as they speak of serious things, these pieces are also an unashamed reflection of my own idiosyncratic taste, the delight I take in my treasure hunting, the joy I experience watching the birds, and the challenge and pleasure I get in making my drawings. Each piece captures a brief moment of balance and harmony, plucked from amongst the chaotic comings and goings of the birds. Each piece is a little sanctuary of stillness, composed of nothing but time and patience and layers of coloured dust; a balancing act performed above the abyss." - Tessa Barringer.

Using my own photographs I have come up with Dunedin’s own ‘colour chart’ – featuring all ‘things’ iconically Dunedin .. 66 colours that will evoke fond memories of this place many of us still call "home" ... the dinosaur park, Carisbrook terraces, Wilsons Whisky, Pink Flat the Door, Pink Frost, st Clair, white island ... and more 🙂

Hot off the press is my A2 sized print (420 x 594 mm) which has been printed on high quality 190 gsm paper and is available now.
