🌴 If we’ve met, you probably know I’m not a fan of worshipping the grind- So here’s your heads up! I’m taking a lil break.
My last day in the clinic will be Thursday the 21st of December, and the doors will be back open on Monday 8th January. YAY!
Please don’t hurt yourselves, and if you’re doing something fun and strenuous it’s always a good idea to say hello to your core and glutes first, even just by doing some balance work beforehand.
I hope Hine Raumati shines for you all, and that I still have fingertips after a week of rock climbing in Tākaka 🧗🏽‍♀Ka kite anō ki a koutou xx

Our 1% local impact donation went to the Tomahawk Smails Beachcare Community Nursery.
THEY'RE SO GREAT!
For the last 20 years, they've been propagating native plants to restore biodiversity to these areas in the dunes- WHich you can explore yourself when going for a surf at Smails or walking the Karetai Track.

I haven't decided on anyone for November's donation yet- so please get in touch if you know of some awesome people doing a great thing.

Hey great people (Sorry not spine content)
I've been dabbling in a bit of community gardening at the Bathgate School, and they've just started up a more regular working bee system. Please head along to the bees if you're free during that time- it's got so much potential and just needs some aroha.

I had the absolute joy of meeting Carla from Give to Grow Ōtepoti today.
Give to Grow Ōtepoti is an organisation still in the early stages of being set up. They distribute gardening tools (generally via restoring secondhand and redistributing ) to help locals get their māra kai set up at home. They have a FB page, so check them out if you are keen on tools or to help them out 🍏

Chuffed to be able to support with the March 1% Local Impact Donation.
These Whitu cards started off as a project developed by students studying at the University of Otago. They were so epic, that they are now distributing them to schools across Aotearoa so that students can broaden their te reo and other aspects of te ao māori that the cards help to introduce.

March has been distracting, I'm well behind on sharing about our 1% Local Impact Donation.
Last month it went to the golden folks at Ōtepoti Fruit Harvest🍎
You can volunteer as a picker, learn to preserve (check out their fruit-preserving workshop this weekend), or you can volunteer your trees to be picked.
Big fan.

December's 1% local impact donation went to these excellent humans at their very very fun establishment.
It's kind of a cafe but also a much-needed gig space, human space, and play space.
Visit them on Moray Place, where they accept koha, spare vegies, your time, etc etc in exchange for great things.

Get your hands back by wearing your pēpī!
The was the receiver of our September 1% Local Impact Donation.
Heidi and Sam hold meet-ups at The South Dunedin Community Rooms for Ōtepoti parents to test out and borrow baby carriers for a very accessable fee.
We all know how much waste goes into the 'baby market' - Borrow, hire, and find secondhand treasures where you can 💚

If you're anything like me you've probably paid a visit or two to these GLORIOUS people !! They were the recipients of the August 1% Local Impact Donation - and damn they deserve it!
Head along to the South Dunedin Community Rooms on a Monday or Friday with a bowl or tupper-ware, and grab a really nourishing feed. They focus on providing affordable meals for the local community and have lots of free meals to give away too if you/your whānau are finding it tight at the moment.

I stumbled upon these wise words in a beautiful pukapuka I've been diving into. Donna has a really lovely disclaimer that all health practitioners could use to remind our clients that they're the ones in charge.
The care we give is absolutely nothing compared to the simple things- a warm dry home, good company, a sense of purpose, our wairua or spirituality, clean water, and nourishing foods. So many of us are missing one or more of these essential ingredients, especially a good hearty laugh.

The The Breast Room opened it’s doors again this month! So I finally dropped over the 1% donation.
They’re open on Thursday mornings, operating in the South Dunedin Plunket Room, providing free help + advice from their lactation consultants 💛

Thank you for your wonderful donation 💕 The Breast Room is 100% dependent on donations and grants so it truly means a lot 🙏🏻

We stock Brahmi Tone because it’s got the good stuff inside, L-theanine 💚
L-theanine is found in green tea, and can be really useful for foggy brains and helping us stay in a deep slumber.

There is a FANCY women's bike ride coming up on September 18th in Ōtepoti!
Get your best on (and a helmet), and feel the bliss of wind slapping your cheeks 🚲

I'm Ruth, from Dunedin in New Zealand.
I heard about for the first time just a few weeks ago, and it's exactly the sort of thing I've been wanting to get involved with since moving here.

Dunedin is a small city with intermittent cycling infrastructure, though it is slowly improving. Any encouragement we can provide to speed up this process is well worthwhile, particularly if we can do it while looking fancy!

Chiropractic care shouldn’t be out of reach for those who need it- but we know from experience that preventative care often falls behind on the priority list when budgets get tighter.
We have a 'pay-as-you-can' pricing system for maintenance adjustments 💛

Kia ora Fam,
Our beautiful Harbour is currently jam-packed with small plastics after the recent hectic weather here in Ōtepoti Dunedin. There is SO much plastic- so I'm heading down to the harbour tomorrow between 11am-1pm with my bags and a thermos full of hot tea. Join me and get:
+ a sense of accomplishment that only comes from saving the world 🌏
+ $10 credit for your next chiro appointment (just come and say hi and show me your bag of trash!)
The worst bits are across from the Edgar Centre and down towards Anderson's Bay- so I'll probably be there!

Whether you had a belly birth or vaginal birth, a new pēpē is a massive shift in how your body holds itself.
We're here to help give new parents a moment to receive care too.
If you've had a belly birth, I often recommend waiting 4 weeks until your adjustment. This gives plenty of time for your scar to heal so that lying on the belly (with a pregnancy cushion) will be comfortable. If you're really in need before then, we can work around these limitations and make sure that you're comfortable and at ease, and the adjustments will be very gentle 🌥

Thank you all for another beautiful month in the clinic!
I dropped off the 1% Local Impact donation to this morning.
What an amazing place.
🏡
The Dunedin Curtain Bank focuses its mahi around making Ōtepoti homes warmer and dryer, in a super sustainable way.
🏡
Check out their website or pop into the curtain bank on Princes St, where you can find curtains, get your curtains lined, or pick up reuseable facemasks and produce bags that have been made from donated materials.

Res.Awesome sharing a great way to face the truth in your trash, which means you can do something about it! Scary but important.

I’m pretty proud of our audit!
🐝 Face-paper = I compost this at home, it’s great carbon/ brown matter
🐝 Latex Gloves = not many, but we use these for infra-oral adjustments. They go straight to landfill 😩
🐝 Cardboard inner rolls = compost or recycled
🐝 Bottles for cleaning products/ soap/ hand sani = previously I’ve just put these in the recycling and bought new, but actually I’m moving towards heading to the refill station at Taste Nature or Bin inn and refilling the empties.
🐝 Metagenics packaging= our supplements arrive in cardboard boxes which we recycle, and have some weird cellulose balls that mimic polystyrene. They dissolve in water which is great! I collect the bubble wrap but honestly I’m not quite sure what to do with my collection.
🐝 Tea bags and leaves= straight onto my plants outside 😂 more so laziness than anything. I could probably bring a compost Tupperware to take these home.
🐝 Petrol/diesel! Is a big problem. Mostly I cycle to work, Saturday mornings seem to be my weak point!A lot of our clients drive in. I highly recommend getting on a bike, or walking if you live nearby. Or the bus 🚌
