I'd like to say a massive thank you to The Bowling Club - Dunedin they have amazingly bought ALL the art we put in the Ara Taiohi - Peak Body for Youth Development Youth Week art show. The money is going directly back into our arts for wellbeing programmes, the rangatahi will be able to chose how to spend it. Some have suggested shared kai, a trip out of school together or going shopping for more art supplies. It's really an amazing gift they have given us and an amazing validation for the young artists. Thank you so much Jackie and Liam! We love you!! ❤️🩷🧡

Kia ora koutou,
Wetini Rapana (Rapper and PhD psychology student) and Claire Rye (graffiti artist and registered Art Therapist) want to let you know that we are taking referrals for a new hip hop therapy group starting some time in term 2 and running throughout Term 3 & 4.
Broadly it is aimed at tane aged 13-16 who have experienced family harm in some capacity, it doesn't have to be specifically violence and it can be historic, also those who struggle with self regulation, get into fights etc.
We will be working art therapeutically and with a strength-based youth work lens using rapping and graffiti for self expression. Ideally they will have some interest in hip hop as a culture.
We are supervised and funded by Stopping Violence Dunedin. It is not a clinical programme, but we are trained professionals and can find further resources for participants if required.
The programme will be free to attend, run after school 4-6pm on Mondays (not during the holidays) and be held at Otago University.
If transport is an issue this might be something we can get funding for.
I'm happy to talk through any referrals you might want to make and answer any questions just DM the page or email me [email protected]. I have an expression of interest form if you know of anyone who is keen.
Please feel free to spread around your networks, if the uptake is positive this is hopefully something that we can offer regularly.
A massive thank you to MusicHelps for supporting our projects for rangatahi in Ōtepoti-Dunedin. We are very grateful for all the instruments we have received, and are absolutely in love with the steel tongue drum that has just arrived. I think it's the most calming sound ever?
We cannot wait to share this with our groups.
Kia ora rawa atu! ♥️💛💚

Celebrate pride by preventing violence against rainbow people.
One simple thing that you can do to support rainbow people is to believe them. The history of doubt, pathologisation and criminalisation of rainbow people and communities still impacts our rainbow whānau. This can make it unsafe for rainbow people to disclose. Saying “I believe you” to rainbow people with your words and actions is a simple but profound way to support our healing.
Help us by sharing these tiles and encouraging Aotearoa to ask some hard questions about rainbow experiences of violence in our beautiful country. You can also keep in touch and pledge your support for rainbow people in Aotearoa here https://rvpn.nz/this-is-us-needs-all-of-us/
