Which is better, Cars or Planes? Obviously, we are talking about the movies.
UWAC and WESMO will jointly be running the best movie night the Uni has ever seen! All the heads of each club will be present as well, so feel free to ask us about our projects and how to get involved!
We will be watching Cars and then Planes (Or the other way around idk 🤔 ) at the mighty Pā! We managed to work out a mean deal with WSU where it's $5 entry but you get fed dinner!
So come along for a fun night of group bonding before the end of the Trimester hits us like a giant boulder from space
Entry is $5 and will be at the door. Both cash and eftpos will be taken.
Entry starts from 5pm with the first movie starting at 6pm.
A MASSIVE shout out to WSU for making this possible!

All pretty busy setting up for our first Open Day in the Pā!
The Thermodynamics class enjoyed a field trip to Contact Energy in Wairakei and Te Mihi last week Friday, 10 May. Luka Ellery, a Waikato grad who’s now an Intermediate Process Engineer at Contact, hosted the class with 40 in attendance, touring the facilities.
The excitement in the students was evident; they loved seeing the Rankine cycle put into practice with such meticulous attention to design detail!
Looks like it was a great night!
Want to know how to get your foot in the door in the NZ space industry? Rocket Lab will be coming onto campus to talk exactly about that!
It also counts as PD hours for those 4th-year students out there 👀

Understanding Accreditation!
This is something we get asked about a lot, so thought we'd do a post highlighting the fact that all of our degrees are accredited by Engineering New Zealand (ENZ). Six of them are fully accredited, and two are provisionally accredited.
What does provisional accreditation mean?
This is when ENZ has assessed the evidence available for a qualification, and expects that the qualification will become fully accredited, once further evidence is provided (this is usually our students graduating and working in industry).

Today we had a low-key postgraduate seminar to give our students an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills, doing conference style presentations, three-minute presentations as well as preparing posters for conferences in a no-pressure supportive environment.
We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the day and big thank you to the people who did the marking, time keeping, and chaired sessions. Huge shout-out to the two students who helped organise the day and ensured it ran smoothly.
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our graduates! Some of us were very sad to miss you* walking across the stage but managed to catch some of you afterwards on the Village Green! Please know that we're very proud of you all, this is a huge accomplishment. Feel free to share your photos (or your parents' photos) below.
(*We were driving back from Experience Engineering in Tauranga in the hope we'd make it back on time, but were a little too late!)
Experience Engineering is underway at our Tauranga campus for the highschool students who registered! Seven different activities spanning all eight of the disciplines we offer. Students selected and ranked what they were most interested in.
Super proud of all our graduands anticipating their graduation this week! Huge congratulations to all of you on your hard work paying off!
Excitement is building at our Hamilton campus with graduation next week! 🎓🎉
Meet Anthony (Shermi) Perera, a standout Waikato grad who broke the family mould of lawyers to excel in Civil Engineering.
Today he is making waves at Beca in Dunedin on the Southern Water Resources team.
His story is just one of the many we're eager to celebrate, so join us in cheering on our graduates as we share more inspiring stories like Shermi's over the next week!
Check out Shermi's full story here 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wIJTO

They're all pretty busy leading up into the teaching recess. YES have their BBQ tomorrow, UWAC have their AGM and WISE are organising their executive committee. More information about these events are on the Engineering Hub for our current students.
Last night we had our Work Placement Launch. ~200 students attended an information evening to learn about the requirements surrounding the work placement components of their degree.
Students doing a BE(Hons) are required to undertake 800 hours of work in an engineering company. These are usually done in two lots of ~400 hours at the end of their second and third years, however each student's journey is unique.
Happening THIS FRIDAY.

The photo competition for our work placements is now over and these two left everyone in the dust, the only two that got into triple figures. It was a very close right until the end (but we took the count at 5pm), however there can only be one winner.
Congratulations Eva Glucina-Young! We will be in touch to sort out your dinner voucher!
We're giving you the chance to vote for your favourite photos from the engineering students' amazing summer work placements! 🌞
Just hit like, comment, or share your favourite photos! There's no limit on how many photos you can like/comment/share. 👍
