A very warm welcome to Imran Khaqliq who started with us as Senior Lecturer - Hainan last month.

Imran completed a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Auckland, and his doctoral research focused on exploring infinite games played on finite graphs as a means to model various problems in Automatic Verification, Model Checking, Automata, and Formal Logics.

With over a decade of teaching experience at the tertiary level, he has instructed courses in Computer Science, Mathematics, and Software Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

He says his teaching approach prioritises real-world applicability, ensuring that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also apply them effectively.

“Prior to joining the University of Waikato, I served as a Lecturer at Falmouth University in Cornwall, England, and as a Senior Lecturer at Media Design School in Auckland. The University of Waikato stands out as a world-class institution, particularly for its vibrant research culture. I have already found it to be a welcoming environment with approachable and supportive colleagues.

“I am eager to contribute significantly to advancing the academic excellence of the department, fostering student success, and making meaningful contributions to the broader field of computer science. Recently, I have developed a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and I am excited about the strong presence of these fields within the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.”

Welcome to the team Imran - we hope you enjoy it here!
