Sonya Fraser, dietitian has started with Nutrition Care today. This is fantastic news - Sonya has lots of experience in diabetes having worked previously at Waikato regional diabetes service.
Her bio:
Sonya is a Registered Dietitian with a special interest in diabetes having spent 20 years working across the paediatric, youth and adult diabetes teams at Waikato Hospital. She has particular expertise in the management of type 1 diabetes across the lifespan. Additional areas include healthy eating advice; nutrition for families; disordered eating and improving your relationship with food; heart disease; Coeliac disease. She has provided group nutrition education to health professionals, teachers and others involved in diabetes care.
Sonya is a long-standing member of NZSSD (New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes) and recently finished serving on their executive. She currently convenes their annual scientific meeting. She is a member of Dietitians NZ Diabetes special interest group. Sonya is an endorsed dietitian prescriber.

It's Men's Health week. Men's participation in primary healthcare is low. Some of the common nutrition issues are low fruit and vege intake, high alcohol consumption and limited awareness of what is good nutrition. With less than 7% dietitians in NZ identifying as male it is challenging to ensure we engage men and boys in healthcare. In private practice its important that we offer a comfortable and inclusive environment including flexible clinic hours, and tailor intervention towards the male view. We need to advocate for men to access healthcare through promotions such as Men's health week.

Our bookings have been very busy especially with the other work we do in Rest homes and for ACC providers. We are having some changes in 2022: Rachel is working only one day a week and a new dietitian - Allie is coming on board to work with our ACC referrals.
