I can't tell you how excited I am to have the opportunity to run our up and coming 5-night yoga and cultural retreat at a World Heritage Site in Japan, and a spiritual one at the. Mt Koyasan, here we come!
With just under 8 weeks to go, the countdown is well and truly on.
Each morning we will start the day with our Zen meditation session which will be lead by the resident monk, followed by a traditional Buddhist breakfast.
Our yoga sessions will be focused on the energetic depth achieved through mindfulness. Moving from a space of authentic intention.
This will be the overall focus of this retreat. The surroundings are the perfect environment to;
* Step away from your day to day life,
* Reflect on where you are at,
* Have no responsibilities,
* Nurture yourself,
* And enjoy the Japanese culture.
I have a great guide lined up for our Temple tours and a 3-hr hike through the cedarwood forests.
These opportunities don't come around that often, so if this is something that resonates with you, then pop across to
www.juliestephensyoga.co.nz to find out more.
Dates: 25th - 30th of September.

Review:
Julie is an amazing yoga teacher accommodating everyone and keeping the practice focused, calm and challenging for everyone. Great approach, explanation, adjustments.
She is loving and giving and lives yoga. The practice of intentions, non judgement and gratitude and being humble.
She is full of life and fun and grace
I have just been on a yoga retreat in Bali. It was in a beautiful, very comfortable exotic hotel Komune in keramas . She created a fantastic program, daily yoga, great food, a beautiful and purifying cleanse in a water spring temple, a bike ride through rice fields, small towns and temples, a massage, and time for yourself, so it was not too busy.
She respects culture and people.
She is a gem.
I would highly recommend a yoga retreat arranged and led by Julie.

Back in 2000, after returning from South America, I decided to commit to a yoga teacher training, which was very different from the standard 200-hr trainings these days. Fortunately, mine was an apprenticeship with no end date.

I committed to a 6-day a week training, which ended up taking 18 months. At this point, I was told my training had finished, and I was ready to start teaching.

In hindsight, I was-given the gift of discipline, commitment, and devotion, which has carried me through the past 24 years.

I always wanted a career that I could easily travel with, and this has been my journey ever since.

Now, I get to run international yoga retreats around the world and enjoy taking like-minded people/ friends along with me on these adventurous journeys.

I always believe that everything happens for a reason, and we are exactly where we need to be!

So I ask you...what are you worried about?
What heavy mindset is zapping all of your prana (lifeforce)?

Come and retreat with us, and who knows, just maybe you'll find the answers.

Have faith and trust in the journey 🙏

Julie's Bali yoga retreat July 2024 exceeded my expectations. It was a short notice decision to attend, so I took a leap of faith. Julie is an exceptional teacher, and the practice really extended me. The venue was absolutely beautiful and a perfect combo of yoga and holiday vibes. From the healthy food options to the wonderful company of the group and the fun excursions, this retreat turned this stressed out woman into a calmer, happier person.

The ripple effect...even the smallest actions can lead to significant, far-reaching changes.

What are the ripples you are creating in your life these days?

Sometimes, we just need to step away from our daily routines. To take ourselves off to new and fresh surroundings, where your only responsibilities are to be -

* Nourished,
* To practice the art of being present,
* To wander through ancient forests,
* To find the stillness and peace within yourself,
* To reflect,
* And JUST BE!

Just over 2 months to go!

Our up-and-coming yoga and cultural retreat will give you all of this. The only thing you need to do is save your spot and pack your bags!

I attended Julie's Bali Retreat in July 2024 on a recommendation from a friend. Wow I could not have made a better decision.
Julie's beautiful calm teaching style and her practice helped me ease back into yoga. She was able to accommodate me into the classes where most of the students were experienced. I would totally recommend this retreat. She provided detailed information on arrival to Bali and getting to the hotel and even offered areas to stay on arrival.
The setting at the Hotel Komune was idyllic for my first trip to Bali. The programme she offered was just what I needed. A mix of morning yoga, meditation, restorative yoga and beautiful trips into Ubud surrounds. And the food that was available at the hotel fitted all dietary requirements.
I was fortunate to have some beautiful yogis on this retreat, which made it even more special.
If you are needing some self-care in a beautiful place with a fabulous teacher, this is the retreat for you.

5-night yoga retreat in Bali, from the 3rd - 8th of July.
https://www.juliestephensyoga.co.nz/yoga-retreats

With under 3 months to go until we take off to the tropics for our next 5-night yoga, cultural retreat, I'd like to revisit the amazing location where we'll be based - https://www.komuneresorts.com/
It really does speak for itself!

There is something for everyone, whether you are travelling alone, with a friend/friends, or with the family. We have full access to the health hub with a lap pool, gym, a stunning yoga shala and a wholefoods cafe where we will have our breakfast each morning. You can even get it taken down to the pool if you prefer to kick back on one of the loungers.

Our morning practice will be at the beach shala, listening to the sound of the ocean, awakening the senses and preparing the body and mind for another amazing day in Bali!

Or perhaps you'd like to spend some time treating yourself to some well-deserved spa treatments. You will get a 60-minute massage as part of the retreat package :).

On top of all the resort offerings, I have lined up a couple of full day excursions where we can learn about the Balinese culture, explore local villages and temples by bike.

We will also be taken to a more local water temple, without the tourist crowds. My good friend and driver has been working with us since the beginning and knows all the best spots! You will be picked up by him or one of his drivers when you arrive at the airport.

We only have 2 rooms left! Get in touch if you want to be part of this amazing trip - www.juliestephensyoga.co.nz

Only 2 rooms left! Is one of them going to be yours?

It is only a matter of time before this image will become a reality!

With Autumn well and truly here, it makes us start to think about possible tropical escapes, and I for one am all over any opportunity to jump on a plane and head on out! I figure, if I am physically and financially able, then why wouldn't I.

If you can resonate with this, then check out my next 5-night yoga retreat in Bali. It might be just what you are looking for!

The dates are 3rd - 8th of July 2024.

Bali Yoga Retreat
Dates are set and we are rearing to go!
Friday 3rd - 8th of July 2024
I am very excited to confirm our next dates for 2024! We had such a blast in July, that it’s not surprising dates are already locked in :).

July 2023

Julie Stephens has been my yoga teacher for nearly nine years! And she is the best of the best. I’ve done yoga with many lovely teachers over the years, but her style and knowledge is beyond comparison. Anyone who has done a yoga class with her will know they have met someone special. Julie planned a yoga retreat recently in Bali and I was lucky enough to attend. She used to live in Bali, so she knows the ins and outs of the area, the beautiful spots we would want to see and how to haggle a good deal. She created a retreat that focused on yoga, meditation, cultural exploration and adventurous excursions. It was wonderful! It exceed my expectations and it has sparked my devotion to yoga. I met new people, I practiced yoga while staring at the sea and I meditated with the sound of birds and geckos in the background. 🧘‍♀️ I’m a business owner and Mom who needed a reset. I was exhausted, I was crabby, and I had no discipline. This retreat has left me feeling refreshed and focused on my health. Even my two-year-old now knows that Mom needs time for yoga so she can stay happy and healthy. If you’re curious about my incredible (and reasonable) yoga retreat to Bali - it’s happening again in July 2024! Will you be there? Reach out to for more information - your mind and body will be eternally grateful. Dana.
Escape to the enchanting island of Bali for a transformative 5-night yoga retreat that will rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of this tropical paradise as you embark on a journey of self-discovery and inner peace.

Each day, you'll be guided by an experienced yoga instructor who will lead you through Vinyasa style asana sessions with plenty of options to choose from, depending on your level, soothing meditation practices, and revitalizing pranayama exercises.

Whether you're a seasoned yogi or a beginner, our classes are designed to cater to all levels, allowing you to deepen your practice and explore new horizons.

Aside from the daily yoga sessions, our retreat offers a variety of enriching activities to enhance your experience. We have two full-day excursions, so you can immerse yourself in Balinese culture. One being a visit to a sacred water temple and the other a full-day bike ride through local villages, rice paddy fields and a delicious lunch to finish the day. “I recently completed Julie’s 200 hr/20 day Yoga Teacher Training program in Nelson and found it to be an incredible experience.

Whether you’re considering commencing your journey of becoming a teacher or like myself, to mainly delve deeper into traditional yoga practice & knowledge with the possibility of later becoming a teacher, Julie’s extensive knowledge and worldly experience in Yoga combined with the stunning location of Nelson made it a highly worthwhile experience.

Although quite an intense course involving many hours & a lot of content to be covered in a short period, I feel very accomplished, privileged and grateful post completion. Most of all my practice and passion for yoga has grown wonderfully! Thank you again, so very much Julie x” Kahli Smith

May 16th - 26th, Nelson, New Zealand

Are you ready to take your yoga practice to the next level?

A full immersive experience with plenty of contact hours. Just what you need when you are working with peoples energy.

As a yoga teacher this is one of the most valuable parts of teaching. Having the ability to walk into a room full of students and being able to tune in on their energy, things they might be going through in life, and supporting them throughout the practice. This can be done with voice cues, a light touch of acknowledgement, a quiet moment to contemplate and so on. Sometimes this is all they need.

These are basic human connections, which are sadly being lost via the online portal. That's another story!

If contact hours and highly experienced teachers (all with over 24 yrs each in their specialised fields) are your priority when looking for a full yoga immersion, then I'd love to hear from you :).

The second 10-days of this training is open to anyone who has already completed a 200-hr training and would like to add on another 100-hrs as continued education. Once again this is a full immersive experience with guest teachers coming in, plenty of hands-on adjustments, teaching, critiquing, a daily 2.5hr practice, yoga anatomy and physiology, and plenty of connection.

"Building on Foundations: Exploring Standing Balances, Backbends, and Binds."

If you attended my previous workshop on "Setting the Foundations," get ready to build upon the knowledge and skills you acquired. We'll begin by recapping the fundamental principles we explored in the first workshop, ensuring a solid understanding of the core elements that form the basis of a strong yoga practice.

Once we've refreshed our understanding of the foundations, we'll dive into the exciting realm of standing balances. Discover the power of finding stability and focus as we explore a variety of standing poses that challenge your balance and cultivate strength from within. You'll learn techniques to enhance your stability, improve alignment, and deepen your mind-body connection.

Next, we'll gracefully transition into the world of backbends, unlocking the potential of your spine and expanding your heart space. You'll learn how to safely and effectively explore backbends, allowing energy to flow freely through your body and experiencing the liberating sensation of opening your heart to new possibilities.

Finally, we'll explore the art of binds, taking your practice to new heights of flexibility and strength. Discover the beauty of intertwining your limbs, building flexibility and creating space, that challenge both your body and mind. With proper guidance and modifications, you'll learn how to approach binds with confidence, unlocking new dimensions of your practice.

My Story

Offering 200-hour RYT certified Yoga Teacher Training

I started my yoga journey approximately 30 years ago and after many years of travelling around the world I decided I was ready to commit myself to becoming a yoga teacher.

The draw card for me was/is more of the spiritual aspect as I have always been curious about the bigger picture, meditating and finding contentment. The physical side was an added bonus.

In the late 90s, I was living on the Gold Coast in Australia and practising regularly at the Gold Coast Yoga Centre. In 2000, I started my yoga teacher training apprenticeship – at that time it didn’t have an end to it. I was basically told that I would be finished my training when they saw that I was ready. This took 18 months of practising six days a week, 30 hours a week. There were no excuses for missing the training and if I didn’t turn up, I would have been expelled from the program. With hindsight, this was one of the most important lessons I learnt, as it gave me the dedication to continue my six-day-a-week practice no matter what the circumstances were. I had to maintain this combination of devotional practice and study which allowed me to gain a much deeper knowledge and understanding of the amazing art and science of yoga.
