Omanawanui hoghlights! 💚❤️🖤
Our return to the Waitakeres saw our team visit one of the most beautiful walks in the southern Waitaks, Omanawanui has treated OffGrid more than once with its stunning views of the Manukau harbour, big elevation changes, and access to nearby beaches and caves!
Wenderholm Highlights! 🌺🏖️
Duder highlights! 🌸📸
How good was Duder? So good it would seem that half the European Union decided to tag along 🇪🇺
Shakespear highlights! 🎭🎪 🌺
How good is Shakespear regional park? Our first Re-O-Week trip was an absolute treat with a team of new and old faces heading up past the Whangaparoa harbour to explore one of Auckland’s most popular spots. 🥾☀️
You can’t spell OffGrid 2023-2024 without Ané, well actually you can, in fact, there isn’t overlap on a single letter. But while this phrase fails us linguistically, Ané has done nothing other than go above and beyond for our club. 🐉🙌🏼
The fifth OffGrid President, our second to be born overseas and our first to hail from outside the Pacific 🇿🇦 Ané joined our team early on into 2023 with a wealth of experience, a passion for the outdoors, warm personality and a strong reflection of our club values, all shining through in her leadership. 📣
Despite being by an avowed introvert, Ané often found herself at the heart of so many trips, through her leadership, conversation, or just her presence, someone who made even or quietest members feel at home, she always starts each trip as club president, but finishes as a friend. 👯♀️🌄
Camera in hand, 📸 mushrooms down the barrel, 🍄🍄🟫 Ané is definitely responsible for your favourite nature or candid shot on the google photos (Don’t tell Chavi!). Someone who wasn’t afraid to bring her own passions to the club, Ané has hosted a number of rock climbing trips, our clubs first ever women’s only trip and a number of exciting walks across Te-Ika-A-Maui. 🐠
If you’re new to the club, don’t worry! Ané’s still around bringing the good vibes to OffGrid trips, spinning yarns with Shannon and Kaitlyn, and probably stopping right in front of your walking path to snap a pic of Papatuanuku’s smallest treasures 🌏
Thank you for your service! 🫡
Pirongia Highlights! 🇩🇪🗻🌳
Weather a near insurmountable challenge or a light sweat, Pirongia is one of the best walks for the soul and the cardiovascular system. 🙌🏼❤️
Taranaki Highlights! 🌋🧤🗿
From the beautiful sunset of Paritutu rock, the gorgeous views peeking between the cloud cover of the Pouakai Tarns and Henry Peak, the long stay at the Three sisters to the hidden gem that is the Ruakuri bush walk, this trip had it all, and then some. 🙌🏼
It’s safe to say after many nights of fun events and walking on mountains our team we’re absolutely shattered, the land of the maunga, the bull and the whio well and truly delivered! 😴💯
Waikaremoana Highlights! 🪶🛥️
Another OffGrid trip produced by the Alumni Club, Jessie Barrow took a team of ten to the recently re-opened Hawkes Bay great walk for a trip filled with memories likely to last a lifetime!
Kepler Highlights! 🦜🎓
Presidents of AUT OffGrid’s Alumni Club, Alex Lamb and Jessie Barrow, took a number of experienced AUT alumni and current students down to Fiorland’s Kepler track. 🦌
Alumni, current student, or not, all are welcome on the Alumni club’s trips! Keep an eye on the OffGrid page for posts from Alex or Jessie! ⭐️
I had to do these two brilliant executives’ post together. Some might call it laziness or efficiency, I call it celebrating OffGrid’s most dynamic duo. 🙋🏻♀️💁🏼♀️
Amy and Ella have been incredibly important faces in 2023. Although only joining as general executives with limited capacity, the pair ended up planning about half of the trips we went on! 🗺️
From taking on day trips, the pair were responsible for a number of important trips, including our most recent flagship trip to Tongariro last year! 🌋🥾
Over the year they made a positive imprint on executive members and club members alike, bring bubbly energy to every trip or meeting they attended. 🫧
A trail runner and a rugby player/basketballer, you’ll still see plenty of Amy and Ella around Tamaki Makaurau, at OffGrid, or in and around the courts and trails of New Zealand! 🏃🏻♀️💨🏉🏀
Thank you for your service team!
One to remember whanau!
Darren has been a regular face on many trips over the past couple of years. Our second executive from the adventurer-filled island of Sri Lanka, we’re grateful for the mahi Darren put in as our secretary. 🇱🇰📧
Darren was and Is a quieter personality on many of our trips, with most of his contributions being in the background, but many emails and many trips had Darren’s input throughout 2023!
Darren, like many club executives, joined to complete his AUT Edge Award, thank you for your service mate and we wish you all the best in finishing your award! 🎓🏆
Te Whare Okioki & Wairere Falls highlights 🛖🌊
Te Piringa | Cascade Kauri highlights! 🌳🛤️
Not too long ago Hannah took us to the newly reopened Cascade Kauri track in the Waitakere Ranges. With a number of boardwalks, stairs, and scenery changes. This walk proved to be great for all difficulty levels while showing so much of what the Waitakeres have to offer! 📸
The walk has only just recently opened after a closure of over five years, with the newly built boardwalks that smell fresh out the Bunnings timber yard 🪵 if you couldn’t join us this time, we 100% reccomend taking the time to go yourself!
Swipe ⬅️ to see our team from the weekend!
Women’s only trip highlights! 🏞️💖
While this was the first, it won’t be the last, keep a close eye for our next one!
I know April has been and gone, but you cannot waste a good post, fire the media manager 🤷♀️

Happy May Fools Whanau 🤦♀️
Chavi, a man who goes by a number of nicknames, many of which would get us shadowbanned on Instagram, is one of the hardest working executives we’ve ever had.🛠️
Officially our club photographer, Chavi could always be seen on walks, no matter how big or small, with his trusty camera and tripod ready to take the best snaps AUT OffGrid has ever seen 📸
Despite the simple nature of his role, Chavi has given so much more to the club, with consistently high levels of leadership and participation on the ground and behind the scenes with our trips.
A great personality and a great friend. Chavi is always ready for a laugh or a good conversation and you’ll still find him on plenty of OffGrid trips to come! 🥾
For any outdoor gear recommendations (he will always point you to Garmin or Torpedo 7) photography tips or good yarns, Chavi’s your guy!
Karangahake Highlights! ⚜️⛏️
Our second O-Week trip saw us head back to one of the most beautiful spots just over an hours drive out of Auckland. ⛵️
Famous for its cycle trails and rich mining history, the gorge is one of our favourites to go to, but the natural beauty of the area, splitting the Kaimai Ranges from the Coromandel Peninsula
Thanks to all of our new and returning members who made our O-Week trips so special for 2024! See you on the next one whanau!
Tāwharanui trip highlights 🏖️🦆
How good is Tāwharanui? The ecological diversity of a protected conservation area on an island outside of Auckland… but it’s in Auckland…. And it’s connected to the mainland!
Our first semester trip of the year was great with a mix of brand new faces with some old ones too. A 12 hour day with a beautiful walk 🥾, a mean as shared lunch 🥗 🥪, and an afternoon at one of Aucklands best beaches 🩳👙
Whangārei Camping highlights! 🏕️🏞️
How good do these highlights look? Keep an eye on our socials for our next overnight trip! Tu meke 💪🏼
Maryam is has been one of the most behind-the-scenes members of the AUT OffGrid Executive team.
You might not have met her, and that's because she wasn't on trips, often not by her own choice. Maryam found herself signing up for many trips but often had to withdraw to be a diligent and supportive student, employee, family member and friend.
Despite only getting out on the trail with OffGrid a handful of times in 2022, Maryam did an excellent job managing the treasury and was a key helper in putting together many of the trips you've seen in the past year.
Maryam, we're grateful for the time you've given our club and wish you all the best. Keep being you and make sure to make that time to get back out into the bush!
🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ PRIDE @ AUT 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
It’s that time of year whanau, Pride Month! 🌈 There has already been so much going on across Aotearoa and we thought it would be a fitting time to share some of the great communities we have at AUT.
As an Outdoors club, we are in no way experts or authorities on anything rainbow, however we are very proud (pun fully intended) to have some of these experts around our university campuses! 🎓
We know so many of our own members are also members of the rainbow community and highly encourage everyone to look into the wide range of services available to you!
Firstly is Out @ AUT , a student and alumni led club, and the oldest club at AUT (One of the only clubs at AUT older than OffGrid!) 🌈🤝🥾. They run many events throughout the year and have safe spaces for people of all rainbow identities no matter if you have come out or not.
Secondly is AUT’s rainbow team these are official AUT staff and volunteers that are experts on rainbow support services available both within the university, and outside it.🎖️ Drop them both a follow today!
