However, unexpressed, stored emotions such as anger can cause inflammation to associated organs. The emotion of anger is stored in the liver for example. Your pineal gland, also known as the third eye, is part of the endocrine system in our brains. It plays an important role in regulating major biological functions in your body-mind, including reproduction, growth, repair, regulating body temperature, blood pressure, sensory and motor activity, sleep, mood, immune function, appetite, and longevity.
It also controls our perception, thought processes, and intuition. Descartes called ‘the seat of the soul’, as its been considered since ancient times to contain supernatural powers.
This gland is a pea-sized conical mass of tissue behind the third ventricle of the brain, and secretes hormones such as Melatonin, which is best known for the role it plays in regulating sleep patterns. Sleep patterns are also called circadian rhythms.
The Pineal gland also plays a role in the regulation of female hormone levels, and it may affect fertility and the menstrual cycle.
If the pineal gland is impaired, it can lead to a hormone imbalance, which can affect other systems in your body. For example, sleep patterns are often disrupted if the pineal gland is impaired. Additionally, because melatonin interacts with female hormones, complications may affect the menstrual cycle and fertility, as well as potentially putting us at risk for a host of health concerns, including neurological issues such as autism, depression, dementia, anxiety, and Parkinson’s disease.
So, getting a good nights' sleep is important. Equally meditation, to help settle your brain waves and heart rate is important.
A Sound Bath or Sound Massage using singing bowls or tuning forks is a great way to help you centre on your Third Eye and bring you back into Resonance.
