Happy Valentine's friends.
If you haven't got plans tonight then grab your partner / pals / appetite and book in your 3 course plant based dinner at Bebemos in Newtown.
Have you been to El C Del Mundo recently? If not, explain yourself.
Not only are you missing out on a serious back bar and some amazing cocktails but you're denying yourself these three beauties from their new menu.
Vegan Al Pastor Tacos:
Pulled Jackfruit, diced onion, pineapple with avocado & tomatillo salsa
Vegan Chorizo Sopes:
Vegan Chorizo from textured soy protein, pickled onion and feta on a fried tortilla
Vegan Ravioli:
Kumara and Red Onion Ravioli served in vegan sage butter with vegan cheese on a bed of walnuts
We got to try them while taking these pics and can verify they are all as good as they look.
The V in 'V-Plates' may stand for 'vegan' but it could also stand for 'Valentines' at least when it comes to Bebemos who have a three-course plant-based dining option for you and your date / friend date / really hungry self.
Their vegan three course menu follows the growth of any plant.
We start with tubers or roots; how the plants drink. The entree features root vegetables in various forms.
The second process is the florets or foliage of a plant; how they breathe. Our main features two types of broccoli.
The third final dessert features the fruit or berry of the plant; how they reproduce.
ENTREE:
dehydrated root vegetable chips and carrot jerky on smoked chipotle bean hummus.
MAIN:
Marinated tofu steak, blackened broccolini, on brazilian Campfire black rice with facon, vegan sausage, and broccoli.
DESSERT:
Acai berry pannacotta with kombucha fermented summer berries and acai berry coulis
Plant based options are increasing everywhere, but did you know that Dockside Restaurant & Bar NZ has two full plant based menus available?
Yep, there's a stacked up brunch menu and a plant-based version of their a la carte offerings. Absolutely spoilt for choice.
Have you booked your bottomless pizza for lunch this Wednesday?.
Laundry Cuba Street have always nailed it when it comes to veggie and vegan food especially when it comes to their burgers.
Broccoli bombs anyone?
The latest edition is “Vegan classic” (because if it ain't broke don't fix it).
Home made “beef” patty, lettuce, tomato, pickles, vegan cheese, ketchup & American mustard.
In 1978 Auntie Mabel opened the Monsoon, one of New Zealand’s first Burmese restaurants. A unique woman that brought her food, culture and inclusive family with her from Myanmar to Te Aro.
And now the legacy continues.
Mabel's is the newest kid on the culinary block but it's already made quite the impression in just four short weeks since opening.
Here are just a couple of their vegan friendly dishes but check out their website at mabels.nz for more - you can even switch out some dishes to make them vegan.
We're heading over to Mexico on Dixon next!
The team have submitted a special dish of fried plantain and vegan remoulade for V-Plates but did you know they have a whole host of plant-based dishes?
Check out these beauties!
Breweries perhaps aren't the first place you think of when you're looking for plant-based food but there's some real treats out there.
Head down to Bond St in Te Aro where you'll find Fork and Brewer offering these three delicious dishes. Whether you're looking for a burger to grab with your beer or something that makes you feel like you've levelled up the health (ahem, with your beer) - they'll please you.
Keep your eye out for these guys too - word on the street is there's plenty more vegan goodies to come from them.
Now this one here is a real treat.
The Botanist have become a real go-to for Vegan eats over the last few years and they're shpwing their skills once again.
Check out this awesome degustation dinner coming your way on Wednesday February 16.
5 courses of plant based goodness all inspired by Kiwiana Kai (yes it does say lamb and whitebait, they're getting creative!) all paired with local wines or beers (or soft drinks if you're driving).
Seats are limited and booking is 100% essential so click the link below.

It's hard to believe that it's been under a year since Nolita Wellington made their way onto the scene.
Since their arrival they've bought us some amazing Italian inspired dishes and some delicious cocktails (did you try their WOAP entry?)
Now they're going super indulgent with ALL YOU CAN EAT PIZZA!
Yep! Bring your comfy pants and tuck in for 2 hours of bottomless pizza for just $30. You can even add drinks options for an additional $20. Oof.
Prices are per person. 2 Hours timed from arrival. Book at https://www.eventfinda.co.nz/2022/bottomless-pizza/wellington-region
A little treat for you cocktail lovers out there, LBQ delivering the goods for you.
Dr Beak Garden Gin:
Fresh and sprightly like the piwakawaka that adorns the label and designed to be enjoyed on any occasion. This is a juniper forward gin based around the core Dr Beak botanicals. A savoury expression with notes of fresh rosemary and mint, finishing with a kick of horopito.
Paired with a snack to satisify your sweet tooth. Delicious!
We are excited to reveal our mini-festival line-up to you this week.
Due to the change in levels unfortunately some of our venues have not found it viable to move forward with events, however, we do have some beautiful dishes coming your way from this weekend.
Kicking it off is Heyday Beer Co. The brewery-bar is putting a full vegan tap list for the duration as well as this gorgeous bite bought to you by head chef Josh.
Be sure to check them out over at http://www.heydaybeer.com
As we all know we are now in Level red for an undisclosed period.
While V-Plates will go ahead on the dates planned, however, things will look a little different.
For some venues it has not been viable to continue, however, many are still able to and their menus will be released this weekend.
We shall look at a new date later in the year to do things the way we had planned originally.
A little heads up for you wonderful people. After much consideration we have decided to move the date for V-Plates to February.
It has been one crazy year in hospitality and many of our venues in Wellington are taking a (very) well earned break over Christmas and New Year.
The new dates allow the venues that little bit of of extra time to provide you with the thing they do best - an excellent drink and dining experience.
V-Plates will now take place February 5 - 20.
Wishing all of our pals in hospitality and retail good luck with the move to a new system today.
Remember this is new for everyone. We are all adapting as fast and as best as we can.
If you're out and about this weekend then have your vaccine passport ready and check for signage on arrival to know how each venue will be running things.
Be patient, be kind.
Traffic lights have arrived just in time for summer, and we are ready to go green!
We all know that the start of summer and the Christmas season is a super indulgent time and many of us go on our annual post festivities health kick with plenty of non-vegans giving 'Veganuary' a go.
But who says vegan food can't also be indulgent?
Introducing V-Plates, a brand-new food and drink event with a focus on plant-based goodness and sustainability. Whether you're snacking on cauliflower bites or enjoying a dairy-free whisky sour, V-Plates is here to show you just how satisfying plant-based dining can be.
From chocolate to wine, burgers to Burmese, cocktails to cakes - there'll be something for everyone.
Stay tuned for venue list and events news over the coming weeks. If you have a business you would like to get involved with V-Plates then send us a message at [email protected]
