Just a little update on our club championships that are being played over the weekend. The women’s singles is down to the business end and weather permitting we should find our champion today. Four players remain alive Zoe Upjohn, Judy Howatt, Pauline Hatch and Sita Bandaranayake. First rounds gets underway at 9am:

In the Men’s championship fours Jim Maitland’s team including Petera Johnson, Simon Bennett & Jamie Morgan took out the title with John Toohill, Adrian Lust, Barry Ablett & Ten Ly runners up.

Congratulations to Paul Flynn and Lou Watene who fought out a Brackenridge final for the ages today. It all came down to a grandstand finish with them locked at 17-17 after 20 ends. Paul got there in the last end but bowls was most definitely the winner. Well done guys and thanks for entertaining the patrons on a Saturday afternoon 🍻 💥
Congratulations to Simon Bennett & Petera Johnson on their selection for the Wellington 1-8 development representative squad to defend the Trix Welch Trophy against Manawatu on the 20th of October.
Also, a special mention to our very own Sarah Cooper who will be managing the development women’s team and Jim Maitland, head selector of the development men’s team.
We’re right behind you all and we know you’ll all do our club proud, on and off the Green.
Congratulations to Ann Bowden on taking out the Women’s 2-Life handicap event this past weekend. Ann played superbly and won the tournament with both her lives intact. Special mention to our two juniors Maria Buck and Zoe Upjohn who both played superbly with Zoe making it through to the final.

The men are down to their final in which Lou Watene will meet Paul Flynn.
Huge congratulations to our LBBC junior team who won the Morgan Trophy triangular today against very strong teams from Petone Central and Wainuiomata. Great start to the season whānau!! Super proud as this is the first time the trophy has been won away from home… and.. also the first time the trophy has been won for the second time. Big shout out to the Morgan family for their support of this tournament and to team captain Jamie Morgan for assembling a formidable squad and selected a team that got the job done ✔️
Best wishes to our very own Petera Johnson who has progressed through a very tough qualifying to progress to the PBA finals which are being held at Naenae Bowling Club on Saturday. He gets underway at 8:30am awesome work Pet go well - we’re all cheering you on!!
We have a great line up games this saturday to find Wellingtons qualifiers for the national PBA Finals. So head on down to naenae to watch some great bowls.

Judy Howat MNZM
Judy Howat was a member of the Wellington Women's bowling club until it amalgamated with the Kilbirnie bowling club to become The Park Bowling Club.
As well as being heavily involved in playing the game she has also been active in administration as Secretary and President as well as Green Superintendent for both her clubs.
She was awarded the MNZM for service to bowls in 2005 and was inducted into the Wellington Legends of Sport in 2013.
She has won in excess of 76 club titles and 47 centre titles from four centres including Gold Stars in both Wellington and Kapiti Centres.
In World Bowls competitions she won silver in the pairs in 1988 and in the fours in 1992.
We have just had a team pull out of our Kings Birthday Classic so if you have a team that’s keen, let’s us known asap!

Pauline & Ellie will be playing the pairs semi final.
Finals for those games will be straight after the semis.
2:30pm could potentially be the women’s fours semi final dependant on player availability from previous rounds. TBC

We've had some great performances from our teams at Champ of Champs events over the last few weeks with three teams so far qualifying for the finals day.
This weekend we have the early rounds of the last two events getting underway with CoC singles and mixed pairs being played at Miramar and Island Bay.

Huge congratulations to Pauline Hatch & Sita Bandaranayake for their hard fought battle in the Quarter Finals, 13 all in the last end, then winning tie breaker! Congratulations ladies, we are all super proud of you!

Huge congratulations to our men’s team of Pet Johnson, Shaun Chait and Jamie Morgan for digging deep and pulling off 4 shots in the last end to go to a tie breaker and winning the quarter final!! We are all super proud of you guys!
Congratulations to Tiki Bennett and Corey Dornan who represented Wellington schools in the College Sport Wellington bowls tournament on Thursday night. The boys played some fantastic bowls winning two from three just losing the one game to an excellent team from Upper Valley and finishing up as runners up in the pairs competition. Their teammates Max, Jakeb and Kura also played brilliantly winning two from three and ending up runners up again to Upper Valley.
Many thanks to Brady from Bowls Wellington and College Sport Wellington for a brilliantly run tournament.
Congratulations to Corey Dornan and Tiki Bennett who tonight took out the Bowls Wellington and CSW central bowls competition in a hard fought final against Max Petherick and Jakeb Claridge - both teams proudly representing Rongotai College Sport. It was a great final watched by a big gallery of LBBC members which was a great encouragement for all the players.
It’s been a fantastic competition and thanks to the other teams involved from Wellington High School and St Pats College (Town).
Corey, Tiki, Max and Jakeb along with Kura Price from Wellington High have now been selected to represent Wellington central in the CSW inter centre competition against Schools from Wellington North, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt to be played indoors at Naenae next Thursday afternoon/evening.
Thank you to all at LBBC for supporting this important competition. In particular acknowledging Bruce and Tui Bennett and Sharman Buckle for all their work in making this competition a huge success.
