The year is 2014. Mary, my wife of 36 years has just endured 3 years of treatment for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It’s been a hellish 3 years I can assure you of that!

After numerous treatment regimens including Chemotherapy and a Stem Cell transplant, she is finally heading into remission. We are very positive and confident people by nature so when my daughter Alana and her husband Dan suggested a Caribbean cruise with them, we jumped at the idea. The thought of relaxing on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world with tepid, crystal-clear water was an opportunity not to be missed, so the planning was underway!

Steve Bird entered the wine industry as a schoolboy, working for a small, family wine company. He followed this passion to complete a degree in Wine Science from the Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia.
Steve and Caroline Bird founded the very successful Thornbury Vineyards, which was later sold to Villa Maria Wine Group.

Gleaned from a life long experience in winemaking, a new adventure began. The small, family run Steve Bird Winery & Vineyards Ltd. had it’s first vintage in 2006.

The winery utilises cutting edge winemaking techniques such as the “Big Barrel” method. (900L oak barrel which is both a roll-fermenter and a storage vessel.) Bird was the first winery in New Zealand to use this method, and the first in the world to used it for Pinot Noir.

Diegale - Ciarlibo 2018

This is an awesome dry rosé with a beautiful deep pink color where a floral bouquet is driven by fruits; strawberry and cherry with touches of raspberry and red flowers.
This wine has an elegant structure and presence on the palate that lingers well on into the finish.
Diegale winery is a young company that started from nothing and created something wonderful on their farm in Tuscany, the land of good wines. An organic estate that respects the environment and values it.

Botas de Barro Rueda - 2020 🇪🇸

Grape: 100% Verdejo

Tasting notes: Crisp, fresh and extremely aromatic dry white that expresses all the character and elegance of the Rueda region. Light straw colour with slight green hints reflects its youth. On the palate, it is intense, and bright with good well balanced acidity.

Food Pairings: Crispy salads, lighter fish dishes and of course, just on its own!

Diegale - Chaver 2018

Chardonnay 50%, Vermentino 50%

This medium bodied dry white is bright, pretty and crisp with floral notes and minerality. A great balance of sugar and fruit; green and golden apple, green grapes, with touches of lemon zest and new green grass. This is a well-structured balanced wine where the deep Chardonnay is refined by the crispy acidity of the Vermentino.

Grape: 100% Tempranillo

Aromatic young wine with a great body and structure.

Intense with a predominance of red and black fruits (strawberry and blackberry), notes of licorice typical of Tempranillo grapes and dairy (yogurt) from malolactic fermentation.

Suitable to accompany and enhance the flavors of all kinds of foods. Rice, legumes, vegetables in sauce, meats and blue fish.
