AMBASSADOR AZUCENA GRACES 50TH NIUE CONSTITUTION DAY
Ambassador Kira Azucena participated in the ceremonies marking the 50th Niue Constitution Day on 19 October 2024 in Alofi, Niue, as the Representative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
During the occasion, Ambassador Azucena conveyed President Marcos greetings to the Niue Prime Minister Dalton Emani Makamau Tagelagi, and reiterated the Philippines commitment to advance bilateral relations, which were formally established in 2022.
In addition to the Philippines, the other countries that sent representatives to participate in the celebration were Australia, China, the Cook Islands, Fiji, France, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, Tokelau and the United States. At the sidelines, Ambassador Azucena met with New Governor General Cindy Kiro, Fiji President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown and members of Niue's Cabinet.
Called "The Rock of the Pacific, Nive is a small island nation in the Pacific with a population of 1,820. It hosts a 50-strong Filipino community that supports the country's telecom services, their schools and many businesses.

PH EMBASSY CONDUCTS CONSULAR OUTREACH MISSION FOR KABABAYANS IN NIUE
A consular team from the Philippine Embassy in Wellington conducted a consular outreach mission to Filipinos in Alofi, Niue on 18 October 2024. The mission provided passports and civil registry services to some members of the 50-strong Filipino community in the island nation of 1,820 population, and was conducted at the sidelines of the 50th Nive Constitution Day celebrations.

By virtue of Presidential Proclamation 1906, signed in 2009, the month of October is declared โNational Indigenous Peoples Monthโ in celebration, recognition, and protection of the rights of Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs)/IPs.
For 2024, the theme of Dayaw is โKatutubong Filipino: Pagtibayin ang Tagumpay 2030 (Indigenous Filipinos: Strengthening the Success by 2030) which highlights how the celebration will focus on the significant role in bolstering the accomplishments and progress of the Northern, Central, and Southern Cultural Communities, focusing on sustaining and enhancing their successes while safeguarding their ICH as we approach the year 2030.

Ambassador Kira D. Azucena met with Professor Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor of University of Canterbury (upper left), Professor Jan Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of Massey University (upper right), and Professor Stuart Brock, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic of University of Otago (bottom), to explore opportunities for collaboration between Philippine Higher Education Institutions and NZ universities, such as student and faculty exchange, joint degree programs, design of short-term training programs for faculty, and joint membership in editorial boards for research publications.
Ambassador Azucenaโs meetings come ahead of a visit to New Zealand by internationally ranked Philippine universities in November 2024. They also build upon the visit to Wellington of the Commission on Higher Education last August.
