Yesterday was (Budget Day) in the Netherlands! King Willem-Alexander opened the parliamentary year with a speech from the Throne and the government unveiled its budget and plans for the year ahead. It's a celebration of Dutch democracy and its most important principles.
‘Where there is debate, democracy flourishes. Where views clash, the truth emerges.’ A free press and an active civil society are essential in order to safeguard the right to information so that governments and public bodies can be held accountable.
