Peoples Coffee
Specialist Fair Trade Organic Coffee Roasters Not only do we produce great coffee, but there's a story in every cup.
We differ to other roasteries in Aotearoa in that our entire range of coffee is certified fair trade organic coffee. It's not the pattern in your latte, it's the story of our growers' — the co-operatives from whom we source our beans. This coffee is often grown by people we know, in places we have visited.
From next Monday (18th November), our Mansfield Street hours will be changing to Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM.
Come hang with us for your morning fix or a treat before the day gets busy.

Meet Taylor, our new Head Roaster!
Taylor stumbled into the world of coffee when a job at a music store fell through, leading to a barista gig that ignited a passion for crafting the perfect cup. From there, roasting felt like the natural next step, turning a newfound love into a rewarding career.
One of the most unusual coffees Taylor has tried? A tea made from the flower of a coffee tree (not to be confused with cascara) —definitely a unique experience! Taylor believes decaf drinkers are the true coffee purists, savoring the taste without the caffeine kick, especially in a creamy oat flat white when he's hit peak caffenation. When it comes to brewing, the classic V60 is Taylor's go-to, offering consistency with plenty of room for creativity during morning quality checks.
A highlight of Taylor's journey? Landing the head roaster role at People’s after nearly a decade in the industry, fulfilling a long-held dream and moving to Wellington to be with a partner.
Cheers to the journey! ☕️

October coffee of the month: Guatemala Huehuetenago
The days are getting longer and with summer on the doorstep, it's time to start thinking about cold brew season! If you need a recipe to get your creative (and coffee) juice flowing check out our barista Evie's iced Chemex recipe below. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Evie's Iced Chemex Recipe:
Ingredients:
40g medium to coarse coffee
200g ice
350g water at around 90 degrees.
Steps:
-Preheat your Chemex/ pre-wet your filter.
-Place your 200g ice in the bottom chamber and your 40g ground coffee in the top chamber.
-Gently pour 80g of water over your bed of coffee and let bloom for 30 seconds.
-When your timer hits 30 seconds pour an additional 130g water.
-At 1 minute 15 seconds gently pour your remaining 140g water for a total of 350g of water.
-Allow to drain, should finish at roughly 3.30 minutes, and swirl your Chemex to incorporate the ice to your brew.
-Serve over ice and enjoy!
Tip: Add optional honey to taste for a sweet and refreshing cup, lovely on a warm day. Another tip is you can adjust the amount of ice during the brewing process, less ice for a more intense cup, more ice for a more mellow cup.

Last night we had a great time celebrating with the and all the other employers of Wellington. While this is a silly picture, we're serious about supporting the living wage.
As a mission-driven company committed to paying coffee farmers more at origin, it only makes sense to pay our employees here in Aotearoa fairly as well.
In the current economic climate it's tempting to say this isn't possible. But when times get tough, it's often those making the least who face the most disruption.
If now isn't the time to double down on our values, when will be?
Last night's celebration was a show of solidarity with the other living wage employers who also refuse to back down. It was inspirational but also reminds us there is still work to do to ensure every New Zealander is paid a wage they can live on.
Most importantly, none of our work would be possible without your support. It's not us driving the change - it's you. 💪💪💪

🐜 What do ants have to do with coffee? Turns out quite a bit.
Our partners at the cooperative control disease and coffee borer organically using ants!
The team creates penicillin by fermenting oranges and panela (sugar cane), then applying it to a substrate of milk curds or oats. Once dried, this mixture is used to treat an ants' nest, allowing the ants to carry the penicillin to the coffee trees, naturally treating diseases. Genius!
This is just one of the creative solutions they implement when growing coffee. Link in bio to read the full write-up about Anei.
