"Finally have got to the bottom of what has been causing me to have issues in Coast to Coast the last couple of years. But also pretty much every time I turn up to a race or even a training ride or run I’m wonder if I’m going to get the symptoms, and about 95% of the time they turn up. ⁠

It’s been 2 years and probably a lot more where I have been racing or training and all of a sudden I lose all power in my left leg. It’s the feeling that someone is tying a rope around your leg and tightening it to cut off all blood flow, then stabbing a knife into your quad and just twisting it for sh*ts and gigs. This then shoot down to my calf, makes my feet go numb and also pulls on my lower back where I lose all power in my leg and end up at a pretty slow walking pace…. Sounds real fun I know. ⁠

After quite a few tests, scans, seeing specialist’s and pretty much becoming Dr Kingsford, we have finally got to the bottom of what it is… iliac artery endofibrosis. Which I actually have in both legs because why do things by half’s. ⁠

So what’s next… I need surgery to fix the artery’s and allow blood flow to both my legs, and then on the road to recovery to be able to get back into some training and racing. But I’m really looking forward to actually having 2 working legs rather than just half a leg." ⁠

Teams started at all ungodly hours of the morning, from driving to Tekapo, the West Coast, cycling 150km to Temple Basin, to climbing Mt Rolleston, or to getting married at Gloriavale. All ending up at Temple Basin in various delusional states, ready to boogie well into the night!
