FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY

The food issue circulating in social media in the canteen around MH campus was already communicated by the SAMCIS administration to the concerned canteen. We ensure prompt action and proper precautionary measures towards the canteen. It was raised that our canteens will continue with providing clean, affordable, and good food to the Louisian Community.

PRECAUTION FOR SAFETY

The KASAMA/SSC SAMCIS Assembly raises precaution for the students' safety on the animals around campus. Please refrain from feeding and interacting with the stray cats that you may come across for your safety and a precautionary measure for your well-being.

Stray cats from outside the campus are keen on visiting near our vicinity and might be uncomfortable with human interaction. Rest assured that the SLU resident cats are not involved in any of the issues

In response to an incident during the latter part of the previous semester involving the University Dress Code, specifically a restriction on gender expression vis-á-vis the previous dress code, several discussions and meetings were initiated and joined by the Council with the University Administration (i.e., OSAS).

All things considered, this led to the crafting of additional guidelines with the primary purpose of allowing Louisians to come to school wearing clothes that align with their gender identity and expression. Earlier today, the University President signed the final draft.

SOGIESC is a matter that is not confined only to the umbrella principle of inclusivity. The acceptance of the University of an aspect so personal to the students is necessary for a conducive and safe space for learning. The University has much to catch up on regarding changes and realizations brought about by time. As a Catholic Institution, we recognize how this can be a challenge. Nevertheless, that it is rigorous does not mean it is impossible.

The Council positions itself at the forefront of every student’s struggle and advocacy, but we do not merely carry ourselves in every meeting room we enter. It is through the voicing out of the students that changes like this actually happen and manifest in the codes of the University.

We celebrate our wins, but we remain determined to demand what is due us – a better enrollment system both for regular and irregular students, facilities that actually cater to the growing number of students, among many others.

The Council reiterates: No Louisian should be left behind.

In response to recent concerns regarding the AY 2022-2023 reimbursement process, a meeting was held with various SLU KASAMA/SSC representatives on July 21, 2024. The meeting aimed to address issues related to financial procedures within the Student Council and its interactions with administrative processes.

The Executive Committee recognized the challenges posed by the cumbersome reimbursement processes and sought to clarify these issues with the involved parties. The meeting also provided an update on the relaxation of documentation requirements for reimbursing past activities and events. Several resolutions were adopted to improve the efficiency of these processes:

To continue requesting the administration to relax paper processing requirements and to ultimately create more accessible document processes and strategies.

For future terms, implement daily announcements through online channels, such as group chats and personal messages to the heads of offices, to ensure timely information dissemination.

To ensure clarity and understanding, offer a detailed overview of budget and reimbursement procedures during each semester's meetings and assemblies.

Strengthen the roles of existing finance and auditing officers within each branch of KASAMA/SSC (including assemblies and central offices). These officers will serve as primary contacts for financial matters and will streamline communication with the Executive Committee.

For the next Congress of Louisians, appoint specific officers to the Committee on Budget and Appropriations for each office and assembly to enhance the efficiency of the budget defense process.

These resolutions aim to alleviate the burden on student officers and address the limitations and oversight within the current system of the student council. The Executive Committee is hopeful that these changes will streamline the paper processing, improve communication with the administration, and ensure that KASAMA/SSC projects proceed smoothly. This commitment is crucial for effectively supporting student initiatives and serving the student body.

RE: OSAS INCIDENT
Just today, an incident concerning the University's dress code policy was shared by a Louisian student. This has been the call of the students time and time again -- that the University be inclusive in its policies, specifically regarding the SOGIESC of students. While the Council has been in touch with the OSAS regarding suggested changes in the Student Handbook, the said post prompted a short meeting between the Council and the OSAS. The Council raised several points regarding the already outdated specifics of the University's dress code policy, most of which are clearly inconsiderate of an individual's SOGIESC.

While changes may not come overnight, what must be improved urgently are the attitude and approach of all OSAS Staff towards cases like this. While we work towards long-term changes like the Student Handbook revision, we also urge the OSAS to consistently monitor its staff in such a way that understanding and compassion are fostered instead of hostility. It is true that the rules and regulations are there to be followed, and we call on all Louisians to abide by them. Still, the struggle continues in ensuring student representation in the crafting of such rules and regulations so that all Louisians can be themselves while they pursue excellence in this institution.

The students deserve a community where academic freedom and gender expression can freely coexist.

The Council assures its role in furthering just that.

The mom of one of the convenors of Kasiyana: Youth in Action having suffered from ruptured brain aneurysm last February 27, is in urgent need of help. Given the nature of her condition, she needed to be admitted to a tertiary care hospital for operation and medical treatment. The operation will approximately cost around 500,000 baht (780,000 php) to 750,000 baht (1,170,000 php). Not included are the foreseen hospitalization costs for her recovery.

She is an Overseas Filipino Worker based in Pattaya, Thailand, who teaches young people. Mrs. Siscar has been working as a teacher for more than 10 years in Thailand. Her dedication to bringing compassionate and quality education to children; and her love and support for us as a family are unparalleled. Recently, the SLU Administration released the matriculation for the Tuition and Other fees increase for A.Y. 2024-2025. There is a proposed 7% increase for the Other fees for all year levels.
