In continuation of the MTCC Lecture Series, the afternoon session kicked off with a series of engaging lectures and demonstrations of equipment. This event brought together students and faculty members from Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Ceramics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, and the Graduate School of Engineering.

She highlighted how these powerful tools can analyze various materials and biological samples by measuring light absorption, fluorescence, and luminescence.
Assoc. Prof. Angelica A. To conclude the event, participants witnessed exciting parallel demonstrations of the Microplate Reader and FTIR Spectrometer. Attendees got a firsthand look at how these advanced tools are transforming materials and biotechnology research.

On August 30, 2024, MTCC head, ๐จโ๐ฌ Dr. Bryan John Magoling served as one of the invited resource speakers at the DLSU Central Instrumentation Facility - Trends and Approaches is Analytical Sciences (TAAS) VII held at De La Salle University - Laguna Campus.
During his talk, Dr. Magoling shared his research experiences in using ๐ฌ๐ฆ Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy to track and study cancer exosomes.
Dr. Magoling was joined by ๐ฉโ๐ฌ Dr. Rachael Lopez, a PCHRD Balik Scientist, who discussed the principles of Laser Confocal Scanning Microscopy; and ๐จโ๐ฌ Dr. Wesley Chen, SEA Manager of Leica, who shared the different uses and applications of the Leica CLSM microscope available at the CIF.
The day was very productive for all attendees as a special session was devoted for a hands-on training on the use of the CLSM at CIF, facilitated by Dr. Lopez and ๐จโ๐ฌ Mr. Arnante.
The MTCC hopes that this engagement with DLSU-CIF would continue and bear fruit with more collaborations and joint-activities in the future โจโจ.

The seminar presented a series of lectures and a panel discussion that underscored the centerโs mandate to promote Materials and Biomedical Science research.
During their lectures, esteemed guest speakers from the fields of biomedical imaging and carbon materials chemistry shared their expertise to our BS Biomedical Engineering and BS Chemistry students and faculty.
Mr. James David Alcantara, a former health physicist of FDA, shared his technical experiences in different biomedical imaging modalities (i.e., CT, MRI, X-Ray, Ultrasound). He also discussed potential professional (e.g., as medical physicists) and continuing education opportunities to our BS Biomedical Engineering students.
Meanwhile, Dr. Virgilio Ebajo, Jr., an Associate Professor of Chemistry from DLSU, focused on the properties of graphene materials and their important industrial applications. He highlighted the crucial role of chemistry principles behind the development of useful materials.
Dr. Rafael Espiritu, Professor of Chemistry from DLSU, also gave an introduction to the Chemistry graduate programs of DLSU to our attendees.

Dr. Bryan John A. Magoling, Head of the Material Testing and Calibration Center at BatStateU's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Environment Research (STEER) Hub, was honored by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) Philippines with the First Prize in the 2024 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists. Dr. Magoling, alongside BatStateU President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo and Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Services Engr. Albertson D. Amante received the award on July 11, during the 46th Annual Scientific Meeting 2024 at the Manila Hotel.

[NATIONAL COMPETITION]
The BatStateU- Material Testing & Calibration Center extends its warmest congratulations to its Head, Dr. BRYAN JOHN MAGOLING, for being one of the National Finalists in the 2024 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists.
Held last April 19, 2024 at the Manila Prince Hotel, Dr. Magoling presented his research paper titled: 'Membrane protein modification modulates big and small extracellular vesicle biodistribution and tumorigenic potential in breast cancers in vivo.'
He was joined by five other finalists from different Universities in the Philippines.
Dr. Magoling earned his PhD in Biochemical Sciences from the National Taiwan University, Taiwan.
His research presentation highlighted the applications of Molecular Biotechniques and Smart Biomaterials to track, quantify, and elucidate the roles of extracellular vesicles (EV) during Breast Cancer development and progression, and how they can be used for cancer diagnostics and therapies.
The competition was judged by Academicians and National Scientists of the Philippines, chaired by National Scientist RAUL V. FABELLA.
The Winners will be announced during the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) this coming July 2024.
