Weโve officially kicked off a new chapter at the College of Allied Medical Sciences! Orientation day was brimming with energy as we welcomed our next generation of healthcare leaders. This orientation marked the beginning of another academic journey, where they will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various healthcare fields. As they embarked on this path, they were encouraged to make significant contributions to the healthcare industry and the communities they would serve.
Throughout the orientation, students were introduced to the values and mission of our college, as well as the expectations and opportunities that lay ahead. Wesleyan University of the Philippines Department of Pharmacy buzzed with excitement as third-year pharmacy students proudly presented their innovative cosmetic products. This esteemed event, held at Co Po Ty Hall, Adamson University, revolved around the theme "From Insight to Impact: Leveraging Research Innovation for Health System Strengthening and Equity."
The competition saw two dedicated contestants from the department presenting groundbreaking research aimed at addressing critical issues in pharmacy practice. Bianca Marin, with the editorial support of John Andrew Pineda, and under mentorship of Maโam Melvin Reyes and Sir Rodrigo Canibas Jr. ,showcased her research titled "Evaluation of Drug-Drug Interaction Among Geriatrics Under Polypharmacy in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija." This study focuses on identifying and mitigating potential drug interactions in elderly patients who are often prescribed multiple medications, aiming to enhance patient safety and treatment efficacy in this vulnerable population.
Alyza Malvy Martin, accompanied by her editor Shaina Mae Bernardo, and under mentorship of Maโam Frances Beanne Capatiand Sir Rodrigo Canibas Jr. presented her insightful research titled "The Impact of Perceived Barriers Affecting Patient Counseling and Interventions Aimed at Enhancing Counseling Services Among Selected Community Pharmacists." Martin's study investigates the obstacles that community pharmacists face in providing effective patient counseling and proposes strategies to overcome these barriers, ultimately aiming to improve patient care and health outcomes.

In a bid to champion patient education and empowerment through medication awareness, the Department of Pharmacy at Wesleyan University Philippines recently participated in the prestigious National Patient Counseling Event 2024. Hosted by Manila Central University in Caloocan, the event attracted representatives from 20 esteemed universities across the Philippines.
Under the theme "Empowering Patients through Medication Education," the event aimed to underscore the pivotal role pharmacists play in educating patients about their medications, thus enhancing health outcomes and overall well-being.
Representing Wesleyan University Philippines with utmost dedication and expertise were Clarence Reguyal and John Andrew Pineda. These exemplary students showcased the department's commitment to excellence and patient-centered care throughout the competition.
The competition, structured to evaluate participants' knowledge, communication skills, and ability to counsel patients effectively, posed various scenarios simulating real-world pharmacy interactions.
