Dear MO Delegate

Currently, we have a video competition running for a free entrance for IFOMPT2024 in Basel. We would like to specifically address the competition to students in OMT qualifying programmes. Therefore, we would be very happy, if you could distribute the competition flyer (attached to this email) to all programs in your country.

ABOUT THE WEBINAR WORKSHOP:

Background and Purpose
There has been conflicting evidence on the relevance and utility of OMPT in the examination and treatment of patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The wide spectrum of patients with hypermobile vs hypomobile SI joints contribute to the conundrum of whether or not manual therapy is necessary and therapeutic exercises such as core stabilization, strengthening and flexibility exercises are the only essential ingredients in improving the functional outcomes of these patients. The purpose of this session is to present the relevant current evidence in the literature and establish their clinical connection and utility, including the importance of combining OMPT examination and treatment with therapeutic exercises.

Description
The first session is a lecture presenting the most current evidence on sacroiliac joint dysfunction. The second session is a videotaped demonstration of OMPT examination and intervention techniques based on the evidence presented in the lecture. At the end of the videotaped session, the pertinent techniques will be highlighted live by the speaker, followed by a question and answer portion.

Relevance
Directional preference is widely used clinically and strongly supported in the literature in addressing spinal pain and symptom modulation and alleviation. This technique is currently utilized in differentiating lumbar spinal source of pain vs sacroiliac joint pain with movement applied mainly to the lumbar spine. Since it is also established in the literature that the sacroiliac joint moves, although minimally, directional preference principles can also be applied directly to the SI joint. The SI joint cluster testing has been established as a valid way to rule in or rule out SI joint pain. This cluster is composed primarily of symptom provocation testing. This session will utilize directional preference principles with the established motions of iliac rotation and/or translation, using OMPT techniques, to either provoke or alleviate the symptoms. The results of this testing can be used as a basis for the initial or ongoing OMPT intervention.
