We are just so happy and proud to have worked with Tayabas local small holder farmers and producers through the Sustainable Tayabas program. From 3 farmers to 16 farmers, we are continuously working towards better crop programming and farming practices. Our goal for the year is to encourage more farmer-vendors to directly sell their produce to local consumers through the Sustainable Tayabas Farmers Market every Sunday and eventually to a bigger market outside Tayabas.

Our utmost gratitude to Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso and City Tourism Senior Officer and Head, Ms. Roselle Villaverde.

Today is the start of the 12-day long celebration of the Mayohan Festival in Tayabas City!

More than just a celebration, the Mayohan Festival is a tribute to the local farmers who have been the backbone of Tayabas' economy for generations. Through their hard work and dedication, they have helped to create a thriving community that is built on agriculture and is proud of its heritage.

The dedicated farmers of the community will be in Parke Rizal for the whole celebration. Join us as we feature our local harvest and heritage delicacies.

Sustainable Tayabas
Farmers Market

Sustainable TOWNS and Habilin Farms have been working with smallholder farmers of Tayabas City by providing them opportunities to directly sell their produce to consumers at a fair and better price. The Sustainable Tayabas Farmers Market is an end result of better farm programming with farmers to ensure better farming practices that nurture the soil and provide better harvests for the community.

We are slowly growing the numbers of organic and non-organic farmers who are selling every Sunday outside the Tayabas Basilica. We are very excited as we officially launch the Sustainable Tayabas Farmers Market on May 13, 2023 during the Mayohan Festival.

This initiative is in collaboration with the Local Government of Tayabas City thru the Office of City Tourism and City Agriculture Office.

Our partner mobile community kitchen, Art Relief Mobile Kitchen has concluded their cooking in Pola, Oriental Mindoro with 3,687 servings of nutritious meals for our fisherfolk and their families, kitchen volunteers and the Philippine Army. ORIENTAL MINDORO UPDATE

DAY 2: 1,200 servings of Tinolang Manok!

We are very grateful to have partnered with Art Relief Mobile Kitchen who is on the ground cooking with and for our distressed community in the Municipality of Pola. The donations that you continue to send allowed us to purchase vegetables, chicken, and condiments for cooking. Most of these ingredients were bought from the local market also to help the local economy during this time of crisis.

For your donations, you may send us a message at 09171306926 or email us at [email protected] to request for account details.

ORIENTAL MINDORO OIL SPILL!

Help us feed our fisherfolk and their families from Pola, Oriental Mindoro who lost their daily source of food from the sea and income from fishing due to the massive oil spill that happened last February 28.

If the sea cannot provide the food that they need to be able to eat, the land can nourish them with vegetables that will be harvested by our Mindoro farmers and cooked by volunteers of Art Relief Mobile Kitchen.

We are very excited to collaborate with the Tourism Office and City Agriculture Office of Tayabas City for our new project in the south. Sustainable TOWNS will be working with local farmers and producers to help set up and establish the Sustainable Tayabas Farmers Market, a weekend market directly linking farmers with consumers in and outside of Tayabas City.

Our goal is to help build sustainable communities through sustainable farming and fair trade practices for our towns and cities. We look forward to that day when we don't need to rescue farmers in order for them to earn for their day to day living. Helping them help themselves now will be our work today so they can keep feeding others tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sustainable TOWNS carries the banner of a Sutainable Tayabas as we start to support their farms and farmers.

We are privileged to have Habilin Farms as one of our partner farms in Tayabas, Quezon. It is a developing permaculture farm that's nestled in the mountains near the foot of Mt. Banahaw. Its many springs and cold weather make it very ideal for growing organic vegetables. Habilin Farms is also an accredited Agricultural Learning Site of the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI). Farmers from Tayabas and nearby towns benefit from trainings provided by ATI, Habilin Farms, and soon Sustainable TOWNS.

We were also able to bring 300 kilos of vegetables for fire evacuees at the covered courts of Village A and Amorsolo inside the UP Campus. There are about 38 families who are still living in tents and making these courts their home while they wait for help.

Dentsu helped us make this happen. Healthy and nutritious vegetables are given to distressed families. Canned goods and noodles are only good for some time but relief goods are best when it nourishes both the soul and the body.

For those who would like to still help, infants and babies need milk. You may get in touch with the UP COVID-19 Response Volunteers to help you send donations.

We have 200 assorted veggie packs that arrived today for distribution to jeepney drivers, fire evacuees, and community kitchens. These vegetables were harvested by our farmers from Atok, Benguet through the help of Haight's Place. An estimate of 2,100 individuals will not go hungry this week.

Thanks to JC Catibog and employees and friends of Dentsu for partnering with Sustainable TOWNS for this worthy and meaningful endeavor. ๐Ÿ’—

BIYAHENG TANDANG SORA-VISAYAS-CITY HALL

God bless us all! ๐Ÿ’—

KAWA Pilipinas continues to be one of our strong and steady partners in co-creating change through food. When buyers also purchase vegetables for indigent communities, a good bulk of these go to community kitchens who help us cook the most delicious and nutritious dishes and distribute them to the most needy.

We hope that you can continue supporting us by purchasing our Pantawid Gulay vegetable packs harvested by Atok and Sagada farmers. This way, we can continue our work in helping both farmers and those who are hungry. :-)

These are some of the heartwarming words we received as we drove around Quezon City to distribute 5-kilo pack vegetables to small karinderias and street food vendors. We have been doing this since 2020 after working with Kasagana-Ka Cooperative for Project Karinderya.

The vegetables we give out are bought by friends and buyers of Sustainable TOWNS from farmers of Atok, Benguet whose sales are still challenged by rising fuel prices and rampant smuggled imported vegetables. For this run, we were able to distribute 275 kilos of vegetables for karinderyas and some of our partner community kitchens, KAWA Pilipinas and CAC Munting Kusina.

This is also our contribution to this year's Filipino Food Month. We work towards preserving Filipino food by supporting the unsung heroes of our kitchens and farm fields. We need them to keep on planting and cooking so that we can continue feeding Filipinos with warm nutritious meals while supporting the sustainability of farmers and karinderyas.
