[SIGMA RHO CARES: Transparency Report for Donations]

With your collective effort and generosity, the UP Sigma Rho Fraternity was able to collect a total amount of Php 17,347.00 cash donations. An estimated total of 150 families were beneficiaries of these donations, while the ingredients helped prepare meals for around 2500-3000 individuals.

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity also assisted in the packing of goods from IskoOps - relief operations organized by the University Student Council in coordination with the OVCCA and OVCSA, Community Kitchen Marikina - Sta. Elena HS - one of the umbrella initiatives headed by Community Pantry PH, and the distribution of goods to the Pook Dagohoy Covered Court (Brgy. UP Campus) and Pook Libis (Brgy. UP Campus).

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity would like to thank all individuals and groups who have shown their generosity towards our brothers and sisters affected by Typhoon Carina. If you still wish to provide any form of assistance, you may directly reach out to the Community Kitchen.

[THREE SIGMA RHOANS TOP THE PLJ'S QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS: A Tradition of Legal Scholarship]

The Philippine Law Journal (PLJ) is the student-run law review of the UP College of Law and the oldest English language law review in Asia. It is managed by the Editorial Board, comprised of select students who qualify through the PLJ's annual examinations. Throughout the years, it has been a recognizable brand of academic excellence and legal scholarship, with many students eager to attain membership to make their mark in the legal field.

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity proudly congratulates Nikolai Castro '18, Cedric Carmen '22, and Ben Casiño '22 for attaining the 1st, 5th, and 10th highest scores in the PLJ Qualifying Examinations. [SIGMA RHOAN APPOINTED NEW EDUCATION SECRETARY: Championing Significant Educational Reform in Government]

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity proudly congratulates Sen. Sonny Angara '96 on his appointment as the new Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

As the incoming DepEd Secretary, Sonny Angara ‘96 has a crucial role in overseeing the improvement of education in the Philippines. His education record which includes the notable Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (K-12), his role as EDCOM 2 commissioner, and his endorsements from the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities, shows his capacity for the role. His pressing task at hand will be the review and improvement of the K to 12 program, which will address the issue of the performance of Filipino students in global assessments.

Sonny Angara ‘96’s appointment exemplifies the Sigma Rhoan tradition of leadership in upholding the scholarly traditions of the nation.

[SIGMA RHOANS NAMED 2024 UPAA DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARDEES: Cultivating Honor and Excellence in Various Fields]

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity proudly congratulates Ronnie Peñarroyo '83, Delio Aseron '94, Paul Bongco '94, and Sonny Angara '96, for being named in the 2024 University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA) Distinguished Alumni Awardees on its 111th year.

Ronnie Peñarroyo '83, was awarded for Geoscience, having contributed to several industry associations, such as the Geological Society of the Philippines, the Philippine Mining and Exploration Association, and the National Geothermal Association of the Philippines.

Delio Aseron II ‘94 received the award for Public Service in Medical Assistance, having been essential to many projects of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation for 26 years, currently serving as its Deputy Spokesperson.

Paul Bongco ‘94, a founding partner of the Bongco & Frez Law Offices, received the Distinguished Alumni Family Award as multiple generations of his family have been exemplary alumni of the University of the Philippines.

Sonny Angara ‘96, serving as a Senator of the Philippines since 2013, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout his tenure, Angara ‘96 had served in the Senate Finance Committee, the Senate Youth Committee, and has authored, co-authored, and sponsored 200 laws during his tenure.

The achievements of these Sigma Rhoans in their respective fields of specialization exemplifies the Sigma Rho's commitment to continuing the scholarly and cultural traditions of the nation and the university.

Our Brods' appointments are a testament to how Sigma Rhoans are no strangers to exemplifying excellence in varying fields. This feat comes after their recent achievements in the legal field. Martin '91 was previously appointed as the National Director of Operations of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, while Jayson '09 recently attained his Master of Laws from Harvard University.

[SIGMA RHOAN LEADS THE WAY IN EVOLUTION OF BIOFUELS AND BIOENERGY]
The 4th International Conference on Biofuels and Bioenergy is a conference hosted by Coalesce Research Group which is attended by renowned researchers, business ambassadors, and talented students around the world. The theme of the session is focused on the evolution in biofuels and bioenergy with the goal of ensuring global sustainability.

The UP Sigma Rho Fraternity celebrates the contributions of Zed Taguiling '21 as Plenary Speaker to the 4th International Conference on Biofuels and Bioenergy which was held on October 12-13, 2023, at the Hyatt Place, London, United Kingdom. His thesis titled "Performance and emission profiles of petroleum nut (Pittosporum resineferum Hemsl.) biodiesel in combustion ignition engine-generator for power generation" emphasized the possibility of alternative fuels such as petroleum nut biodiesel in addressing the issue of increasing consumption of petroleum diesel amidst depleting fossil reserves. His study successfully confirmed that petroleum nut biodiesel is a viable option as fuel in a compression ignition engine-power generation system even at 100% load.

Zed '21 has shown himself to be a leader and a scholar through his achievements in the field of biofuels and bioenergy.
