Fingers are one of the most helpful tools for children in learning mathematical concepts. It allows children to establish one-to-one correspondence. It can even help make instantly perceive quantities easier without needing to count them.
DIY Finger Number for Addition and Subtraction is a fun and easy finger-counting activity that parents at home can do to deepen their child’s understanding of early math concepts.
Counting on fingers is an effective strategy to support a child’s early math learning. It also helps children understand the meanings of symbolic number words assigned to quantities.

Success in math among children begins with the development of a sense of number through counting and quantity. It may seem that children learn to count in much the same way that they learn their alphabet.
This Apple Tree Match is designed to help parents and teachers better understand how to help their children with counting and quantity during the early years.
A very simple manipulative and pairing game, so that children can quickly understand the meaning of numbers 1 to 10. Apple can be taken off, so that children can pair themselves. This math activity helps improve children their math ability, color recognition, etc. It is also a fun way for children to practice number recognition and subitizing. Subitizing is the ability to “see” or visualize a small amount of objects and know how many there are without counting.

Number worm making is an effective way of illustrating the increasing and decreasing order of numbers from 1-100. This learning material will help the teachers, parents, and learners to understand numbers with the help of used folders.
It targets the ability of the learner to arrange numbers from least to greatest and vice versa.

Home Based Learning Resource featuring……DO IT YOURSELF NUMERACY LM’s
Using DO IT YOURSELF learning materials helps children to be confident and be capable of manipulating resources that will enhance their knowledge in Mathematical concepts.
With the help of these materials, children will be confident and will have positive dispositions toward learning, experience challenge and success, and are able to contribute positively and effectively to different learnings. They develop and use their imagination and curiosity through the use of the DIY materials.
Families and educators play a critical role in introducing children to mathematics and encouraging them to be curious and enthusiastic about mathematics. This is the reason why teachers, parents or adults, and learners need to understand the use of mathematics in such a creative way.

Home-based Learning Resource featuring….Poject MSBP of Herminia B. Flores, Principal of Catalino Sumile Memorial School
Project MSBP (MAKING OF SMALL BOOK WITH PARENTS) is an innovative and contextualized learning material of parents at home using Sinugbuanong Binisaya language for the development of reading and comprehension skills of their child specifically for Grade I-III Learners.
Project MSBP is a collaborative effort between the teacher and parents. It aims to create a contextualized story based on the local and present events in their community. The finalized story will be illustrated by some potential parents who know how to draw. The project also aims to bond the relationship between parents and teachers, and parents to children. Reading small books with their children can form a strong bond and at the same time, it helps the learners improve their emotional intelligence and creativity.
This reading intervention of Ms. Flores, is a support also for the celebration of National Reading Month: Brigada Pagbasa, of course with the help of the parents of Catalino Sumile Memorial School as a partner and as a reading facilitator.
Thus, the created storybook is packed with knowledge based on the Most Essential Learning Competencies and the learners can easily connect to the storyline since it is based on their community setting.

Home-based Learning Resource: Word Family Spinners
Manipulative reading materials provide a way for children to learn concepts in a developmentally appropriate, hands-on, experiential way. They are engaging for early learners and increase their level of excitement when learning to read and write.
The Word Family Spinners activity will help learners to recognize patterns among words, which will increase the learner’s word recognition accuracy and support fluent reading. Learning word families is also a fast way to help children recognize a lot of new words quickly because they are groups of words that share the same sound and spelling.
Parents at home can make many spinners for different word families and build the learner’s confidence while reading and having fun.

Home-based Learning Resource featuring the Sound Recognition through Flash Cards (Aa to Zz) of Ms. Mizpen L. Felizaria of Doňa Juana Actub Lluch Memorial Central School.
Ms. Felizaria had been using Flash Cards in teaching beginning reading for over 20 years, found it a very effective tool in improving the skills of the children such as memory and listening. Using Flash Cards brings also a lot of fun-filled lessons like Letter Recognition, Initial Sound recognition, CVC, etc.
With this simple DIY (Do It Yourself, Parents), Sound Recognition is being introduced at a suitable pace for children. Children on beginning reading will help understand that each letter stands for a sound.
And part of the advocacy of the school is the conduct of Reading and Writing Orientation to capacitate the parents in teaching beginning reading and writing at home, and they undergo an orientation on letter-sound production at the same time, they are asked to make their own home-based learning resources to be used in this activity.
“Making instructional materials at home is useless if it is not used appropriately and correctly” - Mizpen L. Felizaria.
It sustained the “Parents’ Impact Program” wherein the parents help the teachers in making instructional materials to develop literacy under the leadership of their school principal, Riza R. Nicor, PhD.

❤️❤️❤️FROM KARITON TO SIDECAR❤️❤️❤️
In this new normal set-up, teaching reading is a big challenge for the teachers, learners, and parents wherein face-to-face classes are not allowed. DepEd Iligan is one with the nation in celebrating the National Reading Month featuring the innovation of Laranjo Elementary School called, Project “ROW”.
Project ”ROW”, stands for Read On Wheels (KARITONungan Para sa Kabataan) is a mobile Reading Program created by Laranjo ES Teachers and at the same time, a Merit Store innovated by Andrew Abragan (Laranjo ES, School Head).
The teachers will carry the “Kariton” around the community on the scheduled time and day for a reading session. And learners earned some merit badges from completing a reading task. These badges can be exchanged for any items or school supplies found in Merit Store Brochure.
The school’s efforts were rewarded when Schools Division Superintendent Roy Angelo E. Gazo donated his own motorcycle to be used in Project ROW as a replacement for the Karition.
(Check this out ❗➡️➡️ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sdT6IWz1XhM )
From “kariton” to sidecar, teachers of Laranjo Elementary School can now easily serve the learners and motivate them to improve their reading skills.

‼ Learn to read. Read to Learn. ‼
There are still many early grade learners struggling to meet the learning standards in early language, literacy, and numeracy.
In order to address the reading gaps, there is a need to strengthen the reading proficiency of every learner and to nurture a culture of reading which is a requisite skill in all learning areas.
DepEd is committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and is proactively reinforcing initiatives to equip learners with fundamental literacy and numeracy skills.
"ELLN" is short for Early Language, Literacy, and Numeracy.
Let's get to know more about ELLN ⤵⤵⤵
