How Do Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Differ?

Physical therapy and occupational therapy both help improve kids' quality of life, but there are differences. Physical therapy (PT) helps with:

pain
strength
joint range of motion
endurance
gross motor skills (large-muscle movements made with the arms, legs, feet, or entire body)
Occupational therapy helps with:

fine motor skills (small-muscle movements made with the hands, fingers, and toes, such as grasping)
visual-perceptual skills
cognitive (thinking) skills
sensory-processing problems

Occupational Therapy (for Parents) - Nemours KidsHealth Occupational therapy can help improve kids' cognitive, physical, and motor skills and build their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment.

Rett Syndrome suspends you in a perpetual state of unease when trying to predict the future. As much as that can be difficult to navigate, it’s also sometimes a blessing!

All we can do is take it one day at a time!

The stages of Rett Syndrome are as follows, with much room for overlap between them:

Phase 1: Early Onset- typically occurs between 6 and 18 months of age and is often overlooked. Stereotypic hand movements may begin, as well as a lack of interest in toys, and slowing head growth. Developmental delays may occur during this time and this stage often is not recognized until into the next stage and looking back.

Phase 2: Rapid Destruction- typically occurs between ages 1 and 4. Can last anywhere from weeks to years. This is the stage that purposeful hand movement and spoken language is lost. Breathing irregularities, irritability, and sleep disturbances may begin. Motor planning becomes more difficult, stereotypied hand movements may become more pronounced, and seizures may develop.

Phase 3: Plateau/Pseudo-Stationary- typically occurs between ages 2 and 10, though many remain in this stage indefinitely. Impaired hand function, stereoptypied movements, and apraxia often become very pronounced. This stage often brings an improvement in behavior, communication, and renewed interest in surroundings.

Phase 4: Late Motor Deterioration- typically begins with the end of ambulation. Muscle weakness, spasticity, and scoliosis are generally experienced during this time. The ability to communicate and participate is still strong and important to recognize, even when the body is physically struggling. Some never reach this stage.

Children with special needs allowed to leave house for therapy— Duque 25/05/2020

dear mom and dad.....

Children with special needs allowed to leave house for therapy— Duque Children with special needs are allowed to go out of their houses for clinical therapy during quarantine, the health chief said.

15/05/2020

Hello guys, it has been nearly 2 months since we last opened our doors for therapy. We are happy to announce that we are back starting May 16 2020.
Despite the fear and uncertainty brought about by the pandemic (COVID-19), we need to get back on track.
We would be doing the "new normal" as we call it, when we do our daily routines, work, school, play, and everything else.

Together we would adhere to the different guidelines as mandated by our government.

In our clinic, we do have certain guidelines as well to keep everyone safe and assure that our kids, the staff, and everyone else.

here are few of the guidelines to be followed
General Guidelines:
• Proper Social Distancing is strictly imposed
• Proper Hand washing before entering the school/ clinic premise.
• Use Footbath.
• Have Temperature taken (not < 37.8)

For the clients and Guardians:
1. No walk-in- Clients will be entertained. Appointments for evaluation should be made on-line or through our contact numbers.
2. Quarantine pass from designated/home barangays are required for the parent/ guardian
3. Only one guardian is allowed to accompany the child during therapy and should wait in the waiting area.
4. Maximum of 10 mins for waiting time for each client (come only during your schedule) If earlier we advise you to wait inside your own car.
5. Wearing of Face mask is a must for all during the duration of the therapy and within the clinic’s premises. For the Child and his/her guardian.
6. Proper Handwashing is required and foot sanitation upon entering the clinic’s premise is required
7. Only come during scheduled therapy hours. We would strictly impose the therapy hours as scheduled. Should a client be late, the remaining number of minutes shall be considered as one full therapy session.
8. Maintain proper social distancing inside the clinic’s premise
9. Transactions and queries would be entertained.
10. No shoes from the outside is allowed inside the clinic.

We also imposed guidelines for our staff to follow so rest assured that all safety concerns are covered.

For our kids that would be traveling we would issue a certification that he/she is undergoing therapy and would be allowed to travel from home to the clinic.

We wish you all that is good and keep safe everyone.

"Time is of the essence", we always want to give our kids the best.
The more we delay and deny that our child needs help, means we are robbing them of their precious childhood.

ECQ won't keep us down :) Through consistent practice, dedication, hard work and support from mom and family-- nothing is impossible! Follow a daily schedule and make the activities fun for everyone. Just few of the things a wonderful mom went through for her child. iChildren family is so proud of the achievement!
The result speaks for itself.

Our kids may have similar diagnosis and may have different concerns but all we need is your time and dedication. Trust that your child can be the best!

Hello Mom and Dad, we would start our online coaching for our little ones just for PT. ,(March 30, 2020) (Philippines)

I would also try to entertain questions \ queries for new kids who are not yet enrolled at our center. We try to provide them simple instructions for exercises and to do things/ not to do things at home, until we are able to assess them personally. Do you know who has kids with developmental delays? Please let them know. It still best to consult our dear pediatrician (dev peds and Neuro) for our concerns. But we could try to help or I could refer you to the proper specialist.

Thank you dear mom, dad and kids
Keep safe

Just PM thru messenger
