PCA Aklan Provincial Office Joins National Simultaneous Coconut Planting Activity

Cabugao, Ibajay, Aklan — August 28, 2024

In a commendable display of solidarity and environmental stewardship despite the unfavorable weather condition, the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Aklan Provincial Office actively participated in the National Simultaneous Coconut Planting Activity held on August 28, 2024. The event took place in the vibrant community of Cabugao, Ibajay, Aklan, and saw the enthusiastic involvement of various government agencies, local coconut farmers, COSCHO (Coconut Scholars), and the KAPATIRAN Ibajay Chapter.

This nationwide initiative, organized to bolster the coconut industry and promote sustainable agricultural practices, successfully brought together a diverse group of stakeholders dedicated to enhancing the coconut sector's productivity and resilience. The PCA Aklan Provincial Office, the key player in the province’s coconut industry development, was instrumental in the event’s ex*****on, showcasing its commitment to improving the livelihoods of coconut farmers and ensuring the future sustainability of coconut farming in the area.

The event kicked off with a ceremonial planting of coconut seedlings, symbolizing a united effort to rejuvenate and expand coconut cultivation. The PCA team, headed by Mr. Gregory G. Teñoso III - Division Chief I, played a vital role in coordinating the planting activities and providing technical guidance to participants. The presence of government agencies; DENR, DAR, DOST, PCIC, DTI, PhilFIDA, OPAPRU, Aklan PPO, LGU Ibajay, PGO Aklan, Cabugao Brgy. Council, Ibajay MPS, Ibajay MDRRMO; local organizations; Naisud Integrated Farmers Association, Monlaque Farmers Organization, Vivo United Coconut Farmers Association, Ibajay Sericulture Association, San Jose Farmers Association; and CHED-CoScho Scholars and Aklan State University Scholarship Coordinators underscored the collaborative spirit of the initiative, highlighting the importance of collective action in addressing agricultural and environmental challenges.

The participation of coconut farmers was particularly significant, as they are the backbone of the coconut industry. Their hands-on involvement in planting and nurturing the seedlings reflects their deep-rooted connection to and passion for coconut farming. CoScho scholars, who are beneficiaries of educational programs aimed at fostering a new generation of agricultural experts, also contributed their enthusiasm and knowledge, further enriching the event.

The KAPATIRAN organization, known for its advocacy in supporting rural development, provided additional support and resources, ensuring that the planting activity was well-organized and impactful. Their collaboration with PCA and other stakeholders exemplifies the power of partnerships in achieving common goals.
In his remarks, PCA Regional Manager Dr. Neil J. Melencion emphasized the significance of the event in reinforcing the region's commitment to sustainable coconut farming. “PCA is very much grateful for your participation in today’s coconut planting activities. Your contribution, though singularly, will collectively result not only in augmenting the number of coconuts in the area, but more importantly you contributed some of your precious time to help our cause in improving the lives of our coconut farmers, and to the whole coconut industry as well.” he stated.

The successful ex*****on of the National Simultaneous Coconut Planting Activity in Cabugao is a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative approaches in agricultural development. As the PCA Aklan Provincial Office and its partners continue to work together, they pave the way for a brighter future for coconut farmers and the broader agricultural community.
