Action Against Hunger Philippines
For a world free from hunger. For almost 40 years, across nearly 50 countries, we have led the global fight against hunger. We push for long-term change.
We save the lives of children and work with their communities before and after the disaster strikes. We enable people to provide for themselves, see their children grow up strong, and build prosperous communities. We constantly search for more effective solutions, while sharing our knowledge and expertise with the world. We will never give up. Until the world is free from hunger.
On September 23, hundreds of families from Magaslong, Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur were forced to flee their homes in search of safety due to ongoing military operations. 🚨Access to critical resources like food and hygiene supplies becomes more urgent than ever.
With the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid's support, Action Against Hunger together with the Integrated Mindanaons Association for Natives (IMAN), provided 200 displaced families with hygiene kits and 20 kilos of rice to help them maintain their health and well-being while away from their homes.
This critical support is part of the project's anticipatory action to ensure that displaced families can meet their immediate needs and uphold their dignity, especially as they may face extended periods away from their homes.

Even seasoned humanitarian workers have room for improvement! 🌍💡
A few weeks ago, our Action Against Hunger Philippines team embarked on an impactful learning journey, led by María Romero from our Headquarters in Madrid. A series of sessions on the The Clingendael Institute training in Humanitarian Negotiation as well as in Action Against Hunger Operational Humanitarian Access Methodology (OHAM) were held for both our Manila and field teams last August 27 until September 9.
The sessions also covered critical topics such as conflict sensitivity, humanitarian negotiations, and international humanitarian law for our project teams and local organizations in Mindanao.
This learning opportunity is one way to improve our skills in navigating complex humanitarian landscapes. By enhancing our knowledge and expertise in these areas, we are empowered to become even more effective advocates for communities facing hunger and conflict.
In the face of severe disruptions to livelihoods and food sources caused by the recent Manila Bay oil spill, we're stepping up to provide urgent relief. Through the generous support of Start Network's Start Fund, we've reached 247 families so far in Limay, Bataan with vital cash assistance to meet their immediate needs. These families have also participated in sessions on health risks, gender-based violence, and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse. We will continue to reach affected families in Mariveles and Orion in the coming weeks.
This response is part of our mission to support communities across Bataan and Bulacan, in partnership with CARE Philippines and the National Rural Women Coalition (PKKK). We're not just providing aid—we're raising awareness about the oil spill's impact on health, the environment, and local livelihoods. Together, we're ensuring that affected families have the knowledge and resources to recover and rebuild.

The EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid is stepping up with ₱76 million (€1.2 million) to fund an emergency response through the Project. This significant support arrives as communities in Mindanao face the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides.
Together with our partners, this funding will help us provide vital aid—food, clean water, sanitation, and protection—to those who need it most. Emergencies like these put immense pressure on people’s resources, making it difficult to secure food and meet essential needs.
Explore how this collaborative effort is making a tangible impact in the fight against hunger and in supporting vulnerable communities.
