ADVISORY:

Due to the scheduled transport strike, work-from-home (WFH) arrangement is in effect on 16 October 2023 (Monday) in UP Manila for those whose work can be done remotely. Please ensure recording of attendance and accomplishment report via the DTRS.

Personnel with urgent tasks in the office may report onsite and shift to WFH subsequently.

For those whose nature of work requires physical reporting in the office, the use of bundy clock and biometrics is required.

The heads of units/offices have the discretion to limit or exempt personnel from WFH, if necessary, particularly for units/offices in-charge of vital services and shall ensure the continuous delivery of services to the University’s stakeholders.

Ms. Michie Ali is an alumna of the BA Organizational Communication program of the Department of Arts and Communication.

Due to the suspension of classes, UPM’s Got Talent (CAS Eliminations) and CAS Awards 2023 have been rescheduled to October 10, 2023.

CAS WEEK 2023

The College of Arts and Sciences will be celebrating CAS Week 2023 with the theme BacKAS ng KAS: Sama-samang Pagbalik at Pagtitipon ng mga Iskolar ng Bayan this October 2-7, 2023.

Join us as CAS Week 2023 celebrate BacKAS ng KAS—the marks we possess as students and alumni of the college, and the marks we leave as an Iskolar ng Bayan to the college and beyond. The event will center on our alumni in their respective fields and the contributions of the college to their career development. During the week, we will be having a variety of events and activities like the alumni/career talks, campus tour, student organization fair, and culminating activities including the college-level UPM's Got Talent and CAS Awards 2023.

Call for responses: Batch 2021 Graduates

Mabuhay, distinguished alumni of the University of the Philippines Manila's biggest and most dynamic unit, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)!

CAS, under the leadership of Dean Maria Constancia Carrillo, through the Office of Alumni Affairs (OAA), is in the process of digitizing our alumni registry, primarily to streamline our communication strategies and records management. Dubbed UPM CASANDRA, the CAS Alumni Network Data Registry Agenda aims to jumpstart re-tracking, connecting to, and maintaining a more interactive relationship between you and the college for more sustained communication and collaborative partnerships in research, academics, and public service. This project began in 2020 under the leadership of then Dean Leonardo R. Estacio.

We are calling for responses from the alumni of the college specifically those who graduated in 2021. Graduates from other batches who have not accomplished the form are encouraged to send their responses as well.

This is due to the continuous rainfall brought about by the suouthwest monsoon and Super Typhoon Goring and Hanna.

This is in accordance to Memorandum Circular No. 30 dated August 31, 2023.

UPCAT 2024 (UP College Admissions)

UPCAT is back! Applications are now OPEN for incoming freshies for AY 2024-2025.

Applicants (current Grade 11 students) must submit their Form 1 from MARCH 8 to APRIL 15, 2023 to take the exam on JUNE 3 and 4, 2023. Applicants must then revisit the portal in SEPTEMBER 2023 to fill out their grades in Form 2B and submit the hard copy of their SF10 or Form 137.

There are reports of a suspected rubella (German measles) case from Bakbakan last Saturday. The UP Health Service advises those who have been probably exposed to:

🔴Observe for development of symptoms for 2 to 3 weeks from the date of exposure
🔴Wear mask as a precaution within the observation period
🔴Report to UP Health Service hotline if a symptom appears via the number: 09617321764
🔴Opt to have vaccination, if you are unvaccinated

Students who developed German measles should be isolated for a week AFTER the rash develops.

Following the Proclamation No. 167 of the Malacañan, classes and work at UP Manila are suspended on 24 February 2023, Friday, in commemoration of the 37th Anniversary of EDSA People Power Revolution.

In celebration of National Arts Month, the UP Manila - Museum Of A History Of Ideas invites you to join Art Unboxed: Overcoming the Virus of Disinformation, A Short Story Workshop this February 22, 2023, 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

The workshop will be facilitated by Ryan E. Machado.

This year's theme “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing” which refers to “galing” as excellence in the arts, as well as underscoring the capacity of the arts to heal, rebuild, and restore in a post-pandemic setting.

The museum acknowledges the process of creative writing as not only an art form but also a way for people to cope and heal. Stories are also a creative way to inform the public on social issues like the theme of this workshop which is "disinformation".

Disinformation is the deliberate dissemination of false and inaccurate information which includes malicious content such as hoaxes and propaganda.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Angela P. Sarile, the founding pillar and mother of Organizational Communication in the Philippines. Dr. Sarile also served as the Dean of the UP Manila College of Arts and Sciences from 1987-1994.

Our sincerest condolences are with the bereaved family as well as colleagues and students who hold her dear in their hearts. May her soul rest in peace as we ensure that her legacy lives on.

Re: GE Classes and Requests

DAC will not be accommodating petitions to open additional GE classes and requests for additional slots EXCEPT when the student is GRADUATING this Second Semester, 2022-2023; in this case, a certification from the OCS must be submitted with the add slot form.

Most of our faculty members have already been assigned a 15/18-unit teaching load. A number of our faculty members are on reduced teaching load as they need to focus on their graduate studies. The sections that are opened are all that we can offer.

Classes and work in UP Manila are suspended on January 9, 2023 (Monday) in light of the annual feast day of the Black Nazarene.

Following the Memorandum No. CCDP 2022-300, suspension of classes declared by the Office of the Manila Mayor automatically applies to UP Manila.

Work suspension for the Philippine General Hospital is covered by separate guidelines issued by the Office of the PGH Director.
