CORDITEX is pleased to have Dr. Randy M. Madrid, Assistant Professor at the Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences in UP Visayas, Iloilo City. He received his PhD in History at UP Diliman, and his advocacies are on the teaching of local history and safeguarding of cultural heritage. Among his advocacies, is his interest on textiles, specifically on hablon and piña.

For the CORDITEX webinar, Dr. Madrid will share his research on the piña. He will discuss the socio-cultural and economic importance of piña as an island-textile, which eventually turned into the "Queen of the Philippine Fabrics," and now a treasure of the world. He will also provide a discussion on the step-by-step process in piña weaving, embroidery, and other artistic forms associated with this textile heritage. From sartorial history and heritage connected with piña, he will also examine the various innovations that make it relevant, useful, and usable to present realities and future possibilities.
