Heads Up, Manila! Whooping Cough Cases on the Rise ⚠️

There's been a significant rise in whooping cough (pertussis) cases in Manila this year, especially among young children. Here's what you need to know:

🟦What is whooping cough?
It's a highly contagious respiratory illness that causes severe coughing spells, especially in infants.
🟦What are the symptoms?
Look out for runny nose, fever, and a cough that worsens over time, with a characteristic "whooping" sound.
🟦How can we prevent it?
VACCINATION is KEY! Make sure your children are up-to-date on their DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) shots. Adults also need booster shots.
🟦What if you think you or someone you know has it?
See a doctor right away. Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent serious complications.

Here are some resources for more information:
Department of Health (DOH): [Department of Health pertussis ON doh.gov.ph]
Philippine News Agency: [DOH reports 49 pertussis deaths assures continuous monitoring Philippine News Agency pna.gov.ph]

ACHOO!!! Don't let the flu ruin your fun Get vaccinated!🤧🤧🤧

Flu season is here, and nobody wants to be stuck inside feeling miserable 😭

The flu vaccine is your BFF against the sniffles, fever, and fatigue that come with the flu. Here's the lowdown:

Shields you from the nasties: It helps your body fight off the most common flu strains, making it much less likely you'll catch it.

Softens the blow: Even if you do get the flu, the vaccine often makes it milder, meaning you'll recover faster and feel less crummy.

Protects the crew: Getting vaccinated isn't just about you! It helps stop the spread to vulnerable groups like young kids, elders, and people with health issues. ‍‍‍

Lightens the load on healthcare: By preventing flu cases, the vaccine helps keep hospitals and clinics less crowded, allowing them to focus on other important needs.

Don't wait, vaccinate! Everyone 6 months and older needs a yearly flu shot. Talk to your doctor today and stay healthy this season!

♥️Protecting Our Little Ones: Why Vaccination Matters!💉⚕️💉

As parents, our top priority is keeping our children safe and healthy. Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to do just that!

Here's why vaccinating your child is crucial:

1. Prevents serious diseases: Vaccines protect children from potentially life-threatening illnesses like measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and many more.

2.Builds immunity: Vaccines work by introducing a weakened or inactive form of a virus or bacteria to the body, helping the immune system learn to fight it off if encountered in the future.

3. Protects others: Vaccination not only safeguards your child but also helps create herd immunity, which protects those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons.

4. Safe and effective: Vaccines undergo rigorous testing and are proven safe and effective.

REMEMBER:

Talk to your pediatrician about the recommended vaccination schedule for your child.

Don't hesitate to ask questions and address any concerns you may have.

Together, let's ensure a healthy future for our children and our communities!

Get those kiddos moving! ‍♀️‍♂️🏃🏊‍♀️⛹️‍♂️

Keeping our little ones active isn't just about burning off energy (although that's definitely a bonus!). Physical activity plays a crucial role in their overall development, both physically and mentally.

Here's why getting your kids moving matters:

PHYSICAL BENEFITS
*Stronger bones and muscles*🦴💪
Regular exercise helps build healthy bones and muscles, setting them up for a lifetime of good health.

*Improved heart health*♥️
Physical activity strengthens the heart and lungs, reducing the risk of heart disease and other chronic conditions later in life.

*Better sleep*💤😴
Active kids tend to sleep more soundly and wake up feeling refreshed.

*Healthy weight management*🏋️‍♂️
Regular physical activity helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces the risk of obesity.

*Boosted Immunity*❤️‍🩹🥗
Exercise can help improve the immune system, making kids less susceptible to illness.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL BENEFITS

Sharper minds 🧠
Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, which can improve cognitive function, memory, and learning.

Enhanced mood ☺️
Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects and can help reduce stress and anxiety.

Better self-esteem🙋‍♀️🙋
Accomplishing physical goals can give kids a sense of accomplishment and boost their confidence

Stronger social skills 👯👬
Teamwork and sportsmanship are often learned and practiced through physical activities.

Make it Fun! 😊😉😆

The key to getting kids active is to make it fun and engaging. Ditch the forced gym sessions and explore activities they enjoy!

Here are some ideas:

Outdoor adventures: 🚵‍♀️🏊‍♂️
Go for hikes, bike rides, or swims. Play tag, frisbee, or jump rope in the park.

Team sports: ⛳🏀⚽
Sign them up for soccer, basketball, golf or another team sport they'll love.

Dance it out: 💃🕺
Put on some music and have a family dance party!

Active games: 🕹️🕺
Play active video games, board games with movement, or create your own backyard obstacle course.

Remember, even small amounts of activity can make a big difference. Start with just 30 minutes a day and gradually increase the duration and intensity as your child gets fitter.

Let's get our kids moving and set them up for a healthy and happy life!

P.S. Share your favorite ways to get your child to move 😃

Introducing Delicious Adventures: A Guide to Starting Complementary Feeding! 🍏🍓🥝🍌🥔🥕🍠

Little one turning 6 months? Time for exciting tastes and textures! But hold on, introducing complementary foods can feel overwhelming. Don't worry, parents, I'm here to help!

Here's how to navigate this yummy journey:

** Timing is Key:** Around 6 months, when breastmilk or formula alone no longer meets their growing needs, it's time to explore new flavors! Remember, every baby develops at their own pace. Follow their cues!

** Start Simple:** One food at a time, please! This helps identify allergies and lets your baby savor each taste. Start with smooth purees like sweet potato, avocado, or apple. ✨

** Make it Fun:** Mealtime is a bonding experience! Sing silly songs, make funny faces, and let your baby explore textures with their hands. Remember, it's not just about nutrition, it's about learning and joy!

❌ No Force-Feeding: Babies communicate their needs. If they turn away, it's okay! Try again later. Forced feeding creates negative associations with food.

** Celebrate Milestones:** Each bite is a victory! Cheer your little explorer on and capture those messy moments (they're adorable!).

⚠️ Safety First:
-Watch out for choking hazards!
-Always supervise mealtimes!
-Have your antihistamines readily available. ( as prescribed by your pedia)

Remember: This is a new adventure for both you and your baby. Relax, have fun, and enjoy the delicious journey!

❓ Still have questions? Don't hesitate to consult your pediatrician 👩‍⚕️They're your feeding partners! ‍⚕️‍⚕️

Taming Tiny Taste Buds: Tips for Picky Eaters ️

Is mealtime a battleground in your house? Do your kids turn up their noses at anything green, wrinkly, or even remotely unfamiliar? You're not alone! Picky eating is a common phase in childhood, but it can be incredibly frustrating for parents.

Fear not, fellow warriors of the dinner table! I'm here with some tips to help transform your tiny tyrants into adventurous foodies:

1. Make it a team effort: Get your kids involved in meal planning and preparation. Let them choose a veggie from the grocery store, help mix the batter, or arrange the food on their plates. This sense of ownership can make them more willing to try new things.

2. Keep it colorful and playful: Ditch the beige! Cut food into fun shapes, make silly faces with fruits, or arrange veggies into a rainbow on their plate. Food should be a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach!

3. Offer variety, but not too much: Overwhelm can be a picky eater's worst enemy. Stick to 2-3 new foods at a time, alongside familiar favorites. This gives them a chance to explore new flavors without feeling like they're drowning in the unknown.

4. Don't force it: Pressure and negativity at mealtime will only backfire. Keep things relaxed and positive. If they refuse a bite, don't make a big deal out of it. Just offer it again another time.

5. Lead by example: Kids are like sponges, soaking up everything we do. Make healthy eating a normal part of your family routine. Enjoy a colorful salad for lunch, munch on veggies as snacks, and talk about how good fresh food makes you feel.

Remember, patience is key! It can take up to 15 tries for a child to accept a new food. Don't get discouraged if they wrinkle their nose at first. Keep offering, keep it positive, and eventually, those tiny taste buds will be begging for broccoli!

It's time to talk about our tiny human's big feelings:😨😳😊🥰😔😭
Mental health in children
Just like adults, children experience a wide range of emotions, and sometimes those emotions can be overwhelming. But unlike us, they might not have the words or understanding to express them.

This post is a reminder that children's mental health matters. Every tantrum, every quiet withdrawal, every sudden change in behavior could be a sign they're struggling.

Here are some things to look for:

Changes in mood or behavior: Persistent sadness, withdrawal, excessive anger, or changes in sleep or eating habits.
School struggles: Difficulty concentrating, loss of interest in learning, or frequent absences.
Physical complaints: Headaches, stomachaches, or other unexplained pain.
Talking about death or su***de.
What can we do?

😊Open the door to communication: Make space for your child to talk about their feelings, without judgment. Listen actively and show empathy.

🏠Create a safe and supportive environment: Make sure your child feels loved, valued, and secure. Offer positive reinforcement and praise their efforts.
Lead by example: Show your own healthy ways of coping with stress and difficult emotions.

⚕️Seek professional help: Don't hesitate to reach out to a pediatrician, therapist, or counselor if you're concerned about your child's mental health.

Remember, you're not alone! There are so many resources available to help you support your child's mental well-being.

Screen Time: Finding the Balance for Tiny Techies

In this digital age, navigating screen time for our little ones can feel like juggling kittens in a washing machine. But fear not, fellow parents, we're in this together!

Let's explore some key points to remember:

No Screens Under 18 Months: Zero, zilch, nada. Their brains are developing best through real-world play and interaction. Think stacking blocks, making mud pies, and endless animal noises (guilty!).

Quality Wins Over Quantity: For older toddlers (2-5 years old), the AAP recommends limiting screen time to 1 hour per day. And when they do watch, choose high-quality, educational content like Sesame Street or educational apps. Think interactive learning, not mindless cartoons.

Co-Viewing is King: Don't let the screen be a babysitter! Watch with your child, talk about what's happening, and help them process what they see. It's a chance to bond, learn together, and make screen time a shared experience.

Screens Aren't the Only Show in Town: Remember, there's a whole world outside the screen (literally)! Encourage active play, reading, storytelling, and imaginative adventures. Building forts, playing dress-up, and exploring the park are all ways to nurture their cognitive and physical development.

Set Screen-Free Zones: Make mealtimes, bedtime, and car rides tech-free zones. These are prime opportunities for family interaction, conversation, and building those real-life connections.

Remember, it's about finding the balance. Screens can be tools for learning and entertainment, but real-world experiences are irreplaceable for our little ones' development. So, let's give them the best of both worlds!

Tandaan ang right test at the right time.

REPOSTING:

Ang kaibahan natin, we are less likely to go severe. Kaya kadalasan, home care na lang.

Pero since asymptomatic to very mild symptoms lang, eto ang kadalasang nangyayari sa mga vaccinated people na may breakthrough infection.

1. Sasakit ang ulo
2. Sisipunin
3. Pagkalipas ng 3 days wala ng
Sipon

So akala mo, wala lang.

So ano ang resulta?

Top 5 symptoms of breakthrough infection:
1. Headache
2. Sipon
3. Sneezing
4. Sore throat
5. Loss of smell

Reminder, this is not an “all or nothing” symptoms.

So to all who are vaccinated, kung makaramdam kayo ng sakit ng ulo, sipon, lagnat, huwag nyong balewalain. Treat it as breakthrough infection. Mag isolate na kayo. Huwag na muna kayo lumabas. Unless wala kayong hawak na dokumento na negative kayo, huwag muna kayong lumabas.

OA? Yes OA.

Let’s do our part naman. Keep safe po sa ating lahat.

Only 0.23% total vaccine doses administered have untoward reactions to recipients. Most are mild only!

18,332 new cases!!! Highest new covid cases reported in the Philippines so far.. praying it won't get any higher. But then reality is that there are still a lot of unrecorded cases - patients who didn't get tested and those who used tests other than RT PCR.
Please, let us all do out part... mask, faceshield, social distancing, VACCINE!!! When you have the symptoms, do self isolation, consult your doctor and have yourself tested. At this point , anyone can be a carrier with or without symptoms! Sad reality is our homes are not as safe as they used to. Data shows transmission is high within the household.
