Sagay is the 3rd competitive component city in Negros Island, 14th most improved in the country
Sagay City is the third most competitive component city in Negros Island, and the 14th most improved among other component cities in the country, latest records from the Department of Trade and Industry showed.
DTI’s 2024 Competitive Index, Sagay is one of the top competitive component cities in Negros next to Cadiz and Kabankalan.
With a score of 35.1124 across the four pillars of governance, Sagay is the 14th most improved component city in the country, as it rose from 93rd last year to 80th this year.
Mayor Narciso Javelosa, Jr. lauded the efforts of the city government employees and the Sagaynons as this improvement in the competitive index rankings shows that the future is bright for the city.
“More projects and infrastructures are rising in the city, let us continue to work together as our competitiveness ranking indicates that our city thrives towards progress,” Javelosa said.
Rankings of Cities and Municipalities are based on the sum of their scores on 4 Pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Infrastructure, Resiliency, and Innovation.
Sagay City ranked 6th in resiliency among other component cities in the country, while 19th in infrastructure, 93rd in government efficiency, 109th in innovation, and 113th in economic dynamism.
Of all the Negros Island component cities, Cadiz is the most competitive, which is also from the 2nd congressional district of Negros Occidental.

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva welcomed the Colonia Divina Integrated School - Supreme Secondary Learner Government (CDIS SSLG) during a courtesy call, where they proudly presented their achievements. CDIS SSLG was recognized as a National Finalist for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organization (TAYO) Award Year 2020 by the TAYO Foundation Inc. for their impactful "Singko Para sa Lapis Ko" Project.
They also received awards from the National Youth Commission, including the Kabayani Awards 2021 - Best PYDP Focused Project on Health and Kabayani Awards 2021 - Outstanding Youth Organization for their "Kutsara Para Sa Bata" Project. Additionally, CDIS SSLG was conferred an Outstanding Impact Circle Award.
Present during the courtesy call were CDIS SSLG President Mikaela Eurize V. Buhayan and CDIS SSLG Adviser John Argiel L. Victor, accompanied by SK Federation President Hon. Marnielin Marco. Vice Bebo commended the organization for their dedication and contributions to youth empowerment and community welfare and promised to support the group for their future projects.

The launching included the distribution of school supplies to students at Hautea Elementary School and Filomeno Pascual Elementary School, where they received pencils, papers, notebooks, crayons, and backpacks for select grade levels.
DepEd officials present during the launch included Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Mark Anthony Tan, SGOD Chief Dr. Ma. Theresa Bingcang, and Education Program Supervisor Jerson Donasco.
Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva joined the distribution of Masagana Fertilizer Discount Vouchers facilitated by the City Agricultural Services Office in Brgy. Puey, Brgy. Lopez Jaena, Brgy. Maquiling, and Brgy. Malubon.
A total of 835 rice farmers benefited from the initiative, receiving vouchers worth a total of 1.7 million pesos.
Vice Bebo encouraged the farmers to make use of modern innovations and initiatives offered by the Agriculture Office and to use the aide provided by the government accordingly. He also expressed his support and appreciation for the hardworking farmers of Sagay and their great contribution to our city's food security.

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva facilitated the distribution of Livelihood Assistance from the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program to associations from Brgy. Baviera and Brgy. Molocaboc.
These associations are the first of ten recipients this year, setting up their Community Stores as part of a 5-year sustainability program. With Php 540,000 allocated for Brgy. Baviera and Php 500,000 for Matabas in Brgy. Molocaboc, this initiative aims to uplift our communities and ensure sustainable income.

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva attended the BayanAnihan program orientation organized by Gawad Kalinga on July 26, 2024, at the Marañon Beach House in Brgy. Old Sagay.
He expressed his gratitude to the students from Sagay City's farm schools and Agri hubs for their participation, emphasizing the importance of youth involvement in agriculture. Vice Bebo highlighted the innovative potential in agricultural practices and the need for such initiatives to ensure food security for future generations. He was thrilled to see a group in Sagay focused on agriculture and food security and hoped that the orientation would be a productive experience for the youth.
The camp began with an introduction to Gawad Kalinga's mission by Sir Binsoi Rivera, followed by SEED’s presentation about youth and agriculture. SP Member Hon. Arthur Christopher Marañon also shared views on agricultural practices and policies, fostering a dynamic exchange of perspectives.
On the second day, participants focused on identifying and addressing challenges faced by farm schools in Sagay City. Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva looks forward to seeing this initiative grow in Sagay and is willing to provide full support for the development of the program.
BayanAnihan empowers farmers through transformative partnerships by assisting them in critical steps of the food production chain, including providing harvest inputs and training, supporting their production, administrative and logistics processes, and connecting them to committed buyers. The program aims to lift farmers from vulnerability and poverty, ensuring they can afford decent food and education for their families.
Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva attended the grand opening of the first Jollibee store in Sagay City, today, July 28, 2024.
Vice Bebo emphasized that the establishment of Jollibee in Sagay is a positive indicator of the city's progress. He expressed gratitude to the Ponce Group of Companies for their investment, which has created new employment opportunities for Sagaynons. Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva also hoped that more investors will be drawn to the city's growing potential.
The store, which is the 351st Jollibee in the Visayas-Mindanao region and the 29th in Negros Occidental, solidifies Jollibee as the number 1 fastfood restaurant in the province. Franchisee Marigold Ponce highlighted that this store is particularly memorable as it is the first one the Ponce Group has opened since the pandemic.
Ponce added that the opening was a meticulous process to ensure that Sagaynons experience the joy that Jollibee brings. The Local Government of Sagay and Congressman Thirdy Marañon were thanked for their support and belief in the brand.
Congressman Alfredo D. Maranon, III also celebrated the opening, stating that it reflects the fruition of collective efforts to bring big brands like Jollibee to Sagay. Jollibee VisMin Operations Regional Business Unit Head Mayee Deveza praised the warm reception from Sagaynons, noting that such support is not always common.
The opening included the blessing of the new store, with a meet and greet with Jollibee mascots including Jollibee, Hetty, Popo, Yum, and Twirly who will be bringing fun to costumers until next week. The store’s target operating hours are from 6am-10pm but may change as they adjust with the operations.

Celebrating the theme "Sa PPAN Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat para sa Lahat!", Vice Bebo emphasized the importance of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028. In his message, Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva underscored Sagay City's commitment to transforming children's nutrition, combating stunting, and reversing childhood overweight and obesity.
He highlighted the importance of unity among government agencies, NGOs, community leaders, parents, and educators in creating a robust support system for adequate nutrition for all. DAY 28 | OPLAN PAGLILINGKOD 2024
Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva joined the 28th and final day of Oplan Paglilingkod 2024 in Brgy. Lopez Jaena.
Over the course of two months, all 25 barangays of Sagay City were served. Residents of Brgy. Lopez Jaena received a wide array of essential services, including free circumcision and dental check-ups, seed and seedling distribution, veterinary care, animal immunization and deworming, and national ID registration.
This unique initiative by the LGU of Sagay has been a testament to its commitment to good governance and community care for nearly 26 years. Oplan Paglilingkod remains dedicated to providing essential support to every corner of Sagay City!

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva joined the 2024 Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off Ceremony at Sagay National High School last July 22, 2024.
In his message, he extended thanks to all the teachers, parents, students, community leaders, and local businesses for their support and contributions to help create a safe and supportive learning environment in Sagay City.

Sitio Tagnipis in Brgy. Taba-ao hosted Day 26 of Oplan Paglilingkod 2024. The community benefited from a range of essential services, including medical and dental check-ups, seed and seedling distribution, veterinary care, animal immunization and deworming, and national ID registration.

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva joined Senator Christopher Lawrence “B**g” Go during the distribution of cash assistance under the NHA’s Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) for the 617 families affected by Typhoon Egay.
During his message, Vice Bebo warmly welcomed the Senator to Sagay City and acknowledged his crucial role in assisting the processing of the aid amounting to 10,000 pesos for each beneficiary. He reassured the community that the city, in collaboration with various agencies and partners, will continue to provide the necessary support to those affected by calamities.
The distribution was facilitated by the National Housing Agency through the Sagay City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Senator B**g Go was accompanied by Mr. Philip Salvador, together with his senate staff who also provided food packs, sports equipment, wheelchairs and provisions for PWDs, and other donations.

Vice Mayor Bebo Cueva attended the Distribution of Presidential Assistance for Farmers, Fisherfolks, and Families on July 19, 2024, at the Taliambong Activity Center.
During the event, he thanked President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., for his efforts for the welfare of communities affected by the El Niño phenomenon. Vice Bebo highlighted the collaborative efforts with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental who also provided food packs for the beneficiaries, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to provide immediate financial aid, agricultural inputs, and technical assistance.
He urged beneficiaries to utilize these resources wisely to enhance resilience, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable practices in agriculture and fisheries.

In his message, he emphasized the importance of recognizing and honoring the diverse abilities within the community. He highlighted this year's theme, "Promoting Inclusion: Celebrating Abilities and Advocating Access," underscoring the need for equal opportunities for everyone.
Vice Mayor Cueva proudly shared Sagay City's new steps toward inclusivity. He announced the city's efforts to explore innovative ways to cater to the needs of citizens with disabilities, partnering with new stakeholders and organizations. He encouraged local businesses to hire PWDs, the academe to provide better learning resources for students with special needs, and more establishments to offer easier access and opportunities for this sector.
