"Come and see." (John 1:46)

Nathanael was not going to be duped. The promise of the long-expected Messiah was too important for him to be led astray by false claims. He was especially skeptical when he heard that Jesus was from an insignificant village like Nazareth (John 1:46).
Son when Philip told Nathanael that Jesus was the Messiah, Nathanael was doubtful. But rather than trying to convince his friend, Philip simply said, "Come and see" (John 1:46). Nathanael, whom the the Church identifies as Bartholomew and whose feast we celebrate today, accepted Philip's invitation. And when he met Jesus, his heart was set on fire. Jesus really was the Messiah he had been longing for!
Of course, this was just the beginning of Nathanael's journey. Through multiple encounters, he became not only a faithful disciple but also one of the Twelve. According to Tradition, after Jesus' resurrection and ascension, Nathanael went to India, Armenia, and possibly as far as Azerbaijan to preach the good news. We don't know what words he used, but we can imagine him relying on the same approach that Philip had used with him: inviting people to encounter Jesus so that they could understand for themselves who he is.
Who invited you to "come and see" Jesus? We can often trace our initial encounter with the Lord back to someone---or multiple people---who urged us to discover the Messiah for ourselves. And as followers of Jesus, we can do the same for other people.
How? Perhaps you could ask someone to come to a parish Bible study or to Adoration or Mass. Or you could give them a spiritual book that has meant a lot for you. Maybe it will take more than one invitation or more than one point of contact before they encounter Jesus in a personal way. But remember, you're not responsible for what happens next. Once they've accepted your invitation, Jesus will reveal himself to them and speak to their hearts in his own time and way.
So whom will you invite to encounter the Lord today?
"Jesus, open my eyes to all the ways I can invite people to 'come and see' you."

A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM DR. ARMAND CEZAR F. MAGLEO, STCF PRESIDENT

December 15, 2021

My dear Theresians,

Christmas greetings to all of you.

Firstly, let’s all thank the Lord for His constant protection and help during the period of pandemic. I believe we have already seen the worst of the Covid 19 crisis. We are indeed very grateful that slowly everything is coming back to normal. But let us not be over confident. The virus is still around. We should not let our guards down. We still have to continue with our safety protocols, namely, wearing of face masks, washing of hands, social distancing, and avoiding closed and crowded places.

Secondly, as we wind up the first semester of this AY 2021-2022, we look forward to coming back to school for the second semester, AY 2021-2022, on January 3, 2022. As an academic institution, we will follow the guidelines of the government agencies (DepEd, CHED, IATF and LGU) on the conduct of classes. At present, all classes shall still be on Flexible Learning Modality, meaning Online Distance Learning Approach, with printed DocsEx (modules) and faculty support through chats and phone calls. You will be advised by your respective department heads should there be face-to-face classes approved by the government.

Thirdly, Christmas is not the only one in the air, but also Election 2022. As we pray for an honest, peaceful election, we pray not only for the candidates to have the common good as their only motivation for seeking government positions, but we also pray for the voters, that they may not sell their votes and that they may vote according to their conscience for the candidates with integrity, with no record of graft and corruption, and with genuine love for our people and our country.

Lastly, for the Criminology Department, enrollment for the second semester AY 2021-2022 is already ongoing. It will resume January 3, 2022. Classes for the second semester start on January 10, 2022.

Again, a Blessed Christmas to us all, Theresians---students, parents, teachers and staff. May we all have a really safe, merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Armand Cezar F. Magleo
President
