Ang Cervical Cancer ay isa sa mga pinakamadalas na sanhi ng cancer sa mga kababaihan, sa buong mundo. Marahil ito ay dahil sa kakulangan ng mga screening program katulad ng Pap Smear lalo na sa malalayong lugar.

Bilang alternatibo sa Pap Smear at HPV testing, ang Visual Inspection of the cervix with Acetic Acid o VIA ay isa sa mga mabisang pamamaraan para malaman kung ang isang babae ay may tsansa na magkaroon ng Cervical Cancer.

Ngayong darating na HUWEBES (May 23, 2024), inaanyayahan lahat ng kababaihan na lumahok sa National Cervical Cancer Screening Day. Magkakaroon ng malawakang screening sa buong Pilipinas. Sa Eastern Visayas Medical Center, ito ay gagawin sa OB GYN OPD clinic 2nd floor. Libre po ito!

As part of the Nationwide Cervical Cancer Screening Day, the Eastern Visayas Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in collaboration with the Philippine Society for Cervical Pathology and Colposcopy will conduct a FREE cervical cancer screening using Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) and Pap Smear on May 23, 2023 from 9 to 11 am at the OB-GYN Clinic 2nd Floor, OPD Bldg.

SUCCESSFUL OUTCOME OF TWIN GESTATION WITH A LIVE FETUS AND A COEXISTING MOLE: A FIRST IN EASTERN VISAYAS

A young boy called Joaquin Dave has made local medical history by becoming the first healthy preterm baby boy to be delivered with a twin mole in Eastern Visayas.

The procedure was done last July 25, 2022, by the Trophoblastic Disease Service headed by Dr. Julie Ann Bolastig-Canson with Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist Dr. Christine Morallos-de Guzman, of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Eastern Visayas Medical Center.

This was a rare case of twin pregnancy with one fetus and a coexistent mole diagnosed at 24 weeks. This pregnancy was also complicated by other conditions such as severe preeclampsia and a left breast mass which was later diagnosed to be benign. The pregnancy was closely monitored with the goal of a healthy outcome for both mother and child. An emergency cesarean section followed by hysterectomy was done at 29 weeks due to beginning hemorrhage and a live baby boy was delivered in good condition weighing 1,200 grams.

The usual course is to terminate pregnancy in twins with a coexistent mole in anticipation of complications. Under close watch and appropriate care, as was done in this case, optimal outcomes were achieved.
