CARCAR CITY, 13 July 2024 – After settling for the 2nd spot last year, Davao Region (Region XI) copped their first-ever Overall Championship in the recently concluded 2024 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) held on July 8 to 12.

Davao Region dominated the contests and clinched the overall championship in the elementary division and second in the secondary division, helping them break the nine-year winning streak of CALABARZON, which finished third in the overall tally.

The National Capital Region (NCR) secured the second spot, while Central Luzon (Region III), and Cagayan Valley (Region II) completed the Top 5 overall performing regions, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.

In addition, Gusa Regional Science High School’s N**o Veritas (Region 10) and Philippine Science High School-Southern Mindanao Campus’ Bagwis Agham (Region 11) were named the Best School Paper in English and Filipino, respectively, in the secondary level.

In the elementary level, The Paradigm of Placido Del Mundo Elementary School (NCR) and Ang Dayo of Southville IV Elementary School (Region 4A) claimed the title Best School Paper in English and Filipino, respectively.

In a separate ceremony, DepEd also recognized this year’s Most Outstanding Campus Journalists and School Paper Advisers across the 17 regions for their excellence in campus journalism.

Among the highlights of this year’s tilt is the launching of the 2024 NSPC jingle spearheaded by the Host Division SDO Carcar.

In the closing program, DepEd Bureau of Curriculum Development (BCD) Director III Samuel Soliven commended SDO Carcar for the initiative and lauded everyone who participated in the NSPC 2024.

“During the awarding ceremony yesterday and even today, we saw various emotions. May mga umiyak, may mga nagtatatalon, may mga sumigaw, may mga nagyayakapan, may mga nagtatakbuhan. Those are all expressions of how they value their craft,” he said.

Carrying the theme “Galing, Talino, at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa sa Diwa ng MATATAG na Adhika,” the NSPC’s top performing regions were determined by their performance in the individual and group contests such as news writing, feature writing, sports writing, radio and TV scriptwriting and broadcasting, among others.

Every ending is an opportunity for a new beginning, and that beginning starts now.

177 graduates of Rizal Elementary School finally reaped their hard-earned diplomas during the 52nd Closing Exercises with the theme "Filipino youth for a stronger future of the new Philippines." The much-awaited event took place at Tagum City Historical and Cultural Center on May 31, 2024.

Deped Tagum City Schools Division Superintendent Alona C. Uy anchored her advice with the school's acronym, RES.

Remain faithful to God, country, and fellow men. She reminded the youth of the importance of offering our lives not just during tough times but also for thanksgiving. Stressing that in everything that they do, they should always think of how they can be of service to others, for even at a young age, each one can make a difference in the community, starting with one's own family.

Exemplify great character, for no matter how brilliant one is, if one can't maintain a harmonious relationship with others, one is nothing. Excellence should also translate to showing respect and treating others with dignity. Such a relatable lesson, not just to young ones but to all adults in attendance.

Start a new journey. The good SDS told the graduates to rest for a while, for they have earned it, but reminded them to set their goal. Be ready to take action, for their time is not later, not tomorrow, but NOW.

The crowd listened intently, taking in every word of the good-natured SDS at heart.

The event was graced by Hon. Vice Mayor Allan L. Rellon, Ms. Vreni Gem O. Caasi Executive Assistant II of LGU Tagum City representing Hon. Mayor Rey T. Uy and Ms. Ciara Isabelle Uy-Salazar.

Also in attendance were Ms. Miriam B. Lilio, DepEd nurse, who also served as the guest speaker for the momentous event , and the faculty and staff of Rizal Elementary School headed by Arlene C. Pamitalan, Principal III.

Surely, all the inspiring words shared to the graduates will transcend into the lives of the young ones as they move forward to a bigger arena- their junior high school years.

Indeed, it was a day of celebration. A testament of God's faithfulness. A thanksgiving for a wonderful journey.
