We, the Mindanao Parliamentary Debate Union (MPDU), Visayas Debate Union (VDU), Eastern Visayas Debate Union (EVDU), and Visayas-Mindanao Debate Union (VMDU), stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and condemn the ongoing occupation, oppression, and human rights abuses perpetrated against them.
In 1947, the United Nations proposed a partition plan to divide Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states. This plan was accepted by Jewish leaders but rejected by Arab leaders, leading to the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. The result was the establishment of the state of Israel, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who became refugees. The Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories has now lasted for over 55 years, since the 1967 Six-Day War when Israel seized control of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. This prolonged military occupation has devastated the lives of millions of Palestinians.
In the West Bank, Israel has constructed a network of illegal settlements, roads, and checkpoints that fragment Palestinian land and restrict the movement of Palestinians. In Gaza, Israel maintains a suffocating blockade that has turned the coastal enclave into what has been described as the world's largest open-air prison. The blockade, combined with repeated military assaults, has crippled Gaza's economy and left the population dependent on humanitarian aid.
The human rights situation is dire, with routine incidents of home demolitions, land confiscations, violent crackdowns on protests, and extrajudicial killings by the Israeli military. Palestinian children are particularly vulnerable, with hundreds killed and thousands detained and abused in Israeli custody over the years.
Today, the people of Palestine continue to face systematic discrimination, military occupation, and violations of their fundamental human rights. They are denied basic freedoms of movement, speech, and access to resources, while Israeli settlements on Palestinian land continue to expand. The brutality of the assault was captured in horrific scenes, such as Israeli snipers shooting unarmed protesters, and the military bulldozing Palestinian homes with families still inside. Doctors reported dealing with the worst casualties they had seen in years, with victims sustaining debilitating injuries from explosive munitions. Over 36,000 Palestinians have been reported killed since the beginning of the recent hostilities. Additionally, 85% of Gaza's population, roughly 2.4 million people, have been displaced, leading to severe humanitarian crises.
We call on the international community and the Philippine Government to take concrete action to end the occupation, protect the rights of the Palestinian people, and work towards a just and lasting peace. This includes:
* ๏ปฟ๏ปฟDemanding that Israel comply with international law and end the occupation of Palestinian territories
* ๏ปฟ๏ปฟProviding humanitarian aid and support to Palestinian refugees and communities under occupation
* ๏ปฟ๏ปฟImposing economic and diplomatic pressure on Israel to cease its violations of human rights
* ๏ปฟ๏ปฟDemanding the United States of America to withdraw its role in the apartheid and discontinue its $12.5 billion military aid to Israel.
* ๏ปฟ๏ปฟSupporting Palestinian self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state
The struggle for Palestinian freedom is a just cause, and we stand in unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their fight for justice, dignity, and self-determination. We will continue to advocate for their rights and to work towards ending this genocide.
A journey to a glorious ending takes dedication and perseverance โจ๏ธ

There is no debate to oppression and genocide.
WMSU League of Debaters heavily condemns the widespread, heavily funded, ethnic-cleansing done by the Israeli government to the people of Palestine. The league extends heartfelt grief and sympathy to the martyred Palestinian children, women, elderly, journalists, and doctors whose bodies can never be found, whose names are unknown.
Unlike the claims that arise in the international news, this was not the first time that Palestinian atrocities had happened. It has been a 75-year occupation, abuse and oppression. From a British and US support for a Jewish State called by the Zionist movement, the Nakba which was the first Palestinian ethnic cleansing, forcing them to resettle in refugee camps, to the Oslo Accord which was established for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip authorized to Palestinian citizens. Since 1948, Palestinians have lost more than 85% of their land, and they have suffered a continuous process of heinous dispossession, resulting in the continuous resistance of Palestinians too.
However, Israel continued building illegal resettlement in these places where Palestinians were physically forced out on their homes. Additionally, a whim of harassment, killings, and illegal arrest has always existed. Oppression has always been on a daily basis.
While we condemn all acts of terrorism such Hamas' attack on October 7, Israel's response in justifying their collective punishment and appalling acts of genocide will never be justifiable. 2.3 million Palestinians now in Gaza, half of them are children, are subjected to ethnic cleansing. Basic necessities were cut off, medical equipments are limited, hospitals and refugee camps were bombed, resulting in countless number of additional unimaginable deaths with the international community is still watching as we witness one of the biggest failures of humanity.
The league strongly believes that in order to attain peace, we ourselves should not be silent about it. When oppression is clear, we must never be silent. We don't have to be Muslim in order to empathize with the Palestinian people, we just have to be human. The league heavily encourages everyone to take a stand in times of injustice and oppression, around the world, especially in Palestine, to use our voices, to unequivocally and without hesitation, denounce genocide and call for a ceasefire to end Palestinians' perpetual subjugation.
Stand in solidarity for the liberation of Palestine. Stand with us! Stand for humanity.

Martial Law is NOT up for debate.
Martial Law was NOT a golden age.
Marcos is NOT a hero.
September 21, 1972 - Today, in history, marks the 50th year anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law of the Marcosian dictatorship. WMSU League of Debaters enjoins the country in honoring the heroism and lives of the thousands of ML victims, desaparecidos, labor leaders, student activists, revolutionaries, and ordinary Filipinos whose sacrifices freed the country from the reins of authoritarianism and restored democracy.
Contrary to the myths surrounding Martial Law, it was not a time of discipline and prosperity. The countryโs ballooning debt at that time and government incompetence prompted deep civil unrest which the Marcosian dictatorship responded with human rights abuses such disappearances of opposition leaders, students, and ordinary citizens and suppression of the press and freedom of speech. Statistics from Amnesty International reveal that 70 000 were detained, 34 000 were tortured, and 3 240 Filipinos were killed during Martial Law.
In this era of the return of the Marcoses to Malacaรฑang and the rise of disinformation, fake news, and distortion of our history, our duty to uphold the truth becomes all the more clear. We must NEVER FORGET.
NEVER AGAIN to Martial Law.

For 17 years, the League has produced stellar and magnificent debaters while bagging championships left and right, not only in the field of debating but also in producing top-caliber performers in the academe.
Without its rich history, the league wouldnโt be where it is today. If it werenโt for the sacrifices made along the way by all the previous and current debaters and for the shedding of their blood, sweat, and tears, this organization will not be the way it is now. Our history is who we are and we survived the great war.
Debating has never been about making arguments but rather about impacting and touching the lives around us. We, as debaters, know that we can speak to empower and bring meaningful discourse to the table, not only representing the under privileged voices but also in transforming perspectives.
May we use the privilege we have with kindness and humility as we transfer our skills to future lineage of debaters in order for the legacy and history to live on!
