The Prime Minister's National Innovation Award (PMNIA) takes a leap forward by initiating the incubation phase for Round 1 & 2 awardees. The commencement was marked by the formal signing of a Tripartite Contract involving the awardees, host incubators, and HEC.

Notable signing ceremonies unfolded at IM Sciences, NUST, University of Punjab, GCU Lahore, UET Lahore and Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences & Technology.

Islamabad Wins Table Tennis League (Federal Region)

Aspiring Table Tennis players between the ages of 15-25 participated in the Table Tennis League for Federal region including teams from AJK, ICT and Gilgit-Baltistan held under the auspices of Prime Minister's Youth Programme at Pakistan Sports Board, Islamabad.

Islamabad won the competition, followed by Mirpur in second place and Gilgit finishing third. The winners were given cash prizes, trophies and medals.

The players of participating teams were selected after trials in Mirpur, Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Skardu.

Roundtable to Deliberate on Raising Research Funding thru CSR

Higher Education Commission, Pakistan in collaboration with relevant government ministries as well as academic and industrial sector stakeholders held a roundtable for deliberations on ‘Enhancing Research Funding through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)’.

Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed presided over the session. Roundtable was attended by Member Research, Development & Innovation (HEC) Dr. Bushra Mirza, Senior Joint Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Mr. Abdul Sattar Khokar and representatives from Ministry of Industries and Production, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Information Technology and Pakistan Science Foundation. Senior management from different industries/corporate bodies and eminent researchers/academic experts also participated in-person or online.

The participants emphasised streamlining CSR contributions with support from relevant government bodies. The forum also highlighted the rising need of actively pursuing and harnessing industry-academia relations, and agreed on devising policy level interventions and reforms that will fuel the engagement of industry with academia. The roundtable outcomes will be widely circulated among the stakeholders and a strategic document will be prepared and presented to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for consideration and adoption by the government.

Ambassador of Pakistan to Belgium, European Union, and Luxembourg Ms. Amna Baloch called on Chairman HEC Dr Mukhtar Ahmed. Both sides discussed challenges and opportunities for Pakistani students in foreign universities, ongoing academic collaborations with EU, Belgium, and Luxembourg. They also explored pathways for facilitating scholars and deepening academic cooperation.

Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) wins 2nd All Pakistan Women Intervarsity Boxing Championship organized by NED University, Karachi in collaboration with HEC.

Over 200 women boxing players of 13 universities across the country participated in 8 different weight categories.

LCWU stood 1st with 4 gold and 1 bronze medals. University of the Punjab, Lahore remained 2nd with 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals while the University of Sargodha finished 3rd with 1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals.

HEC’s young shooters have got 3rd position in a week-long 7th Chief of Naval Staff Open Shooting Championship 2023 held at Pakistan Navy Shooting Range, PNS Bahadur, Karachi. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf graced the closing ceremony.
The HEC shooters have won 12 medals, including seven silver medals and five bronze medals.
Over 400 shooters from various institutions, including Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Federal Rifle Association, Sindh Rifle Association, Punjab Rifle Association, Balochistan Rifle Association, HEC, WAPDA, and others participated in a total of 27 matches.
