Talk About Flight-free Traveling 🙌

Reducing the amount that we travel by plane is one of the most effective ways to reduce our personal carbon footprint. Even though many of us know this, stopping flying still feels like a very big step to take.

HU welcomes you to an inspirational evening about flight-free travel on Monday the 12th of December! We will have a talk about the topic followed by examples of travelling that uses climate friendly transportation. Our speaker will be Terese Arréhn from Vi håller oss på jorden, which is a climate organization focusing on the climate impact of flying. 🎄 Sustainable Christmas workshop 🎄

On the 7th and the 14th of December from 18:00-20:00, we are organising with Medborgarskolan (Bangatan 6, Lund) a cozy evening to make sustainable Christmas gifts and decorations.

🎅🏽Workshop leader:
Rosa Sanchez will be here to teach you how to up-cycle textiles using patchwork techniques to make durable Christmas present, such as a cushion covers, aprons or table mats. She will also help you up-cycle your own clothes using embroideries techniques. So, bring your favorite t-shirt for up-cycling or one of your sweater and turn it into a new "ugly Christmas sweater". Rosa Sanchez is trained in pattern design and sewing, craft techniques in embroidery and art embroidery, at Malmö Tillskärarakademin as director and she is self-taught in pearl embroidery with gold thread.

Talk about Sustainable Fashion, Consumersism and Second Hand: 14.00-15.30

Our speakers:

- Cecilia Fredriksson: professor of European Ethnology and Consumer Culture at the department of service management and service studies, Lund University. Cecilia is specialized in consumption studies from a contemporary and a historical perspective, and her research revolves around sustainability, consumer culture and value-creating practices in combination with analyzes of the aesthetics and material
culture of everyday life.

-Sustineri Carmen Gomez: Fashion connoisseur with an eye for detail. During the days I work with communication, the rest of the time I spend informing and simplifying sustainable fashion. Through workshops and lectures, I inspire others to take care of their textiles and see them with new eyes. Through my Instagram account, I inspire in using and reusing one's clothes, . In today's consumer society, we have to relearn, among other things, to consume smarter but also to see the value in what we already own. This is something I intend to delve into during the lecture. Many people talk about a capsule wardrobe, buying secondhand and borrowing clothes, but how do we get there? Is it possible to consume sustainably? And how do you succeed in that?

Hållbart Universitet and Katastrofmedicin organize a lecture about these topics on monday the 28 of Nobember. Our speaker will be Camilla Bergvall who is the president at Djurens Rätt. Djurens rätt is the biggest animal rights organization in Sweden.

The lecture will be in the lecture room at LUCSUS (Biskopsgatan 5) floor 3. We begin at 18:30.

There will be vegan fika for all who participate of course 😊 Welcome!
