The U.S. Embassy was proud to attend a spectacular re-enactment of the Battle of Hampton Roads in Filipstad on August 3 between the Union Army’s USS Monitor, designed and constructed by Swedish-American immigrant John Ericsson, and the Confederacy’s CSS Virginia (formerly Merrimack). Many thanks to all who planned, organized, and attended the event commemorating John Ericsson’s contribution to the preservation of the United States.

On June 14th, Swedish Army Sergeant Major Lars (Fred) Flink received the prestigious Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his exceptional dedication to training U.S. Special Forces in winter warfare skills. U.S. Army V Corps Commander Lieutenant General Charles Costanza and Swedish Army Commander Major General Jonny Lindfors presided over the ceremony.
