Sonja Larsson | Radiance

The gallery is open today Saturday 12:00–18:00 in connection with Gallery Weekend Stockholm. Welcome!

The logic of nature is at the core of Sonja Larsson’s practice. The strings of the universe unfold, multiply and grow, and so does the centre core of Larsson’s paintings. Time and repetition are crucial in her painterly practice, where a meditative aspect is constantly present.

We are pleased to present Kristina Müntzing’s first solo show at the gallery, 'Hand Me Downs'. The exhibition features a new series of works, simultaneously exploring art and family history.

Opening tomorrow, Friday 8 November 11:00–19:00, in connection with Gallery Weekend Stockholm.

Kristina Müntzing’s family was at one point during the 1930’s crossing paths with the artist GAN (Gösta Adrian Nilsson, 1884–1965). In exchange for tailor-made suits by Kristina Müntzing's grandfather Carl Åkesson, who had his tailor shop in Lund, GAN paid in paintings. The paintings have since then played a part in the family’s history – as decorations on the walls, taking part in family celebrations, but also being sold on the secondary market.

Using the photographs from her family album as well as photos of the family’s GAN paintings, Müntzing enlarges the photos, fragmenting and dissecting them in order to re-construct (re-weaving) new images. The torn images are literally woven together, creating new works, patterns, maps and meanings.

Kristina Müntzing (b. 1973 in Helsingborg) holds an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, and an MFA from Valand Academy of Fine Arts. Selected exhibitions include Institut Suédois, Paris, Krognoshuset, Lund, Göteborgs Konsthall, Tegen 2, Stockholm, Fabrikken, Copenhagen, Västerås Konstmuseum, Textilmuseet, Borås, Arbetets Museum, Norrköping, Kristianstads konsthall, Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Galerie der Künstler, BBK, Munich, Ronneby konsthall, Galleri Ping Pong, Malmö, GIBCA 2013 Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, and ANNAELLE Gallery, Stockholm. Müntzing is represented in the collections of Public Art Agency Sweden, Kalmar konstmuseum, Göteborgs Konstmuseum, Västerås Konstmuseum, Textilmuseet, Borås, The city of Helsingborg, Gävle Municipality, Apoteksbolaget, and Region Skåne.

We are pleased to present Sonja Larsson’s fourth solo show at the gallery, 'Radiance', with a new series of paintings presented in the smaller gallery room.

Opening Friday 8 November 11:00–19:00 in connection with Gallery Weekend Stockholm.

Following her acclaimed exhibition, 'Resonance', with the gallery in 2020, the new presentation features large-scale paintings as well as smaller works.

The logic of nature is at the core of Sonja Larsson’s practice. The strings of the universe unfold, multiply and grow, and so does the centre core of Sonja Larsson’s paintings. Time and repetition are crucial in her painterly practice, where a meditative aspect is constantly present. Following a clear set of rules, like the programming of DNA in nature, the works take shape, and the trace of the human hand is visible. The result grows forth, radiating from the paintings into the room and beyond.

Sonja Larsson (b. 1955 in Olofström) graduated from the Royal Institute of Art in 1985. Her work has been presented in solo shows at The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Enköpings konsthall, Sven-Harrys Konstmuseum, Västerås Konstmuseum, Galerie Aronowitsch, Aicon Contemporary Gallery, New York and Cecilia Hillström Gallery. Furthermore, Larsson has been engaged in several public commissions, e.g. Årstaberg train station, Stockholm, Slottsbergsskolan, Göteborg, Örebro Hospital, Hagastaden, Einar Mattson, Stockholm, Navet, Umeå, the Rinkeby Academy, Danderyd Hospital, The Royal Institute of Technology, and the Swedish Embassy in Santiago, Chile. She is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet, Public Art Agency Sweden, Stockholm konst, Lund University, Umeå University and Region Stockholm. Sonja Larsson had her first solo show at Cecilia Hillström Gallery in 2014, and her work has also been presented at Art International, Istanbul, MARKET Art Fair, Stockholm, viennacontemporary, Vienna and Abu Dhabi Art Fair. Larsson has been a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts since 2010. She lives and works in Stockholm.

The gallery is open today Saturday 12:00–16:00. Welcome!

In Mats Hjelm's monumental four-channel film installation, music is the starting point. The film takes us through a series of panoramic sequences of landscapes accompanied by Bach’s 1st and 2nd cello suites, in a new interpretation by classical guitarist Derek Gripper. It is as if the film follows the music, rather than vice-versa.

Kristina Matousch is currently exhibiting at Varbergs Konsthall. The solo show 'Öm våldsam äcklig kärlek’ is on view until 19 January 2025.

Kristina Matousch's starting point is often events and objects from chaotic everyday life. Using a variety of materials and techniques, she examines how complex and unfathomable humans and their relationships are. The works displayed in the exhibition are independent, but together create an ensemble that is based on the physical and psychological spaces of the home.

In Matousch's work, there is often a duality. The pieces are multilayered and open to interpretations that touch on the thin line between love and hate, tenderness and disgust. With consistent ex*****on and a stripped-down visual language, she transforms everyday objects and experiences into objects where violence, strength, and humor converge.

Art talk – Per Wizén

A conversation with Per Wizén in his ongoing exhibition ’Still Life’, on view until 1 November. Welcome!

Per Wizén | Still Life

The gallery is open today Saturday 12:00–16:00. Welcome!

Working with paper collages, Wizén creates images from historical art material transferred into photography. Piece by piece the work grows into a new whole, bringing forth underlying tensions and hidden meanings in the original work. The exhibition follows Wizén’s important series, 'Reworkings', from 1998, based on the work by Caravaggio. Where the first series focused on the underlying erotic themes and power hierarchies in Caravaggio’s original paintings, 'Still Life' focuses on a more personal narrative – the experience of loss.
