Andreas Glad, 'Solid Ground'
Sörmlands Museum, Nyköping
11 apr – 15 sep, 2024

The ongoing solo exhibition at Sörmlands Museum is Andreas Glad's largest museum exhibition to date, providing a comprehensive presentation of his work. The exhibition features paintings and models from the period 2007-2024.

Andreas Glad's work is characterized by depopulated or deserted places, rendered with razor-sharp precision. Beach villas, paved highways and swimming pools all serve as monuments to man's grand but fateful dreams.

Mostly known for his oil paintings, Andreas Glad's process also involves the creation of miniature landscapes, meticulously put together from scraps of paper, cardboard and wood, which are used as models for his paintings.

We congratulate Inger Bergström who has been awarded Stockholms stads kulturstipendium (the City of Stockholm's Cultural Grant)! The motivation reads as follows:

"Inger Bergströms mångåriga konstnärliga praktik berör det textila kollagets rymd och abstraktion. Hennes verk skulpterar ett rum i rummet, en vilja att kliva in i eller vara en del av. Med lysande hantverk återkommer konstnärskapet på oväntade sätt och platser i stad och land."

TOM HEDQVIST

Tom Hedqvist (b. 1948) is educated at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, and co-founder of the designer collective Ten Swedish Designers. He has previously been appointed Professor of Graphical Design at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, artistic director of Orrefors Glassworks, Rector of Beckmans College of Design, and Director of Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg. His works have been exhibited at Nordiska museet, Stockholm, Institut suédois, Paris, Waldemarsudde, Stockholm, Millesgården, Stockholm, Röhsska Museet, Gothenburg, and most recently in the two-person exhibition "Rum bilder ränder", together with Ingela Håkansson Lamm at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm, in 2020. Hedqvist is represented in the collections of Nationalmuseum, Nordiska museet, Röhsska Museet and Textilmuseet in Borås.

A keen observer of everyday objects such as storm drains, fences, facades and windows, Hedqvist creates stylized images featuring lines, crosses and grids. He describes them as "light and open, or dark and closed – like graphic images of the present, where hope and fear run parallel".

MARKET ART FAIR: MADHAT KAKEI & SARA MÖLLER
17 – 19 May 2024 | Liljevalchs, Stockholm
Booth 17

We look forward to welcoming you to booth 17 at Market Art Fair this weekend, where painter Madhat Kakei and sculptor Sara Möller exhibit new works in a joint presentation.

Madhat Kakei’s body of work unfolds as an exploration of the sculptural possibilities within painting. His abstract works are meticulously crafted through the application of numerous layers of paint. Over the years, his paintings have become increasingly sculptural, featuring rough and embossed textures. Kakei’s work draws connections to the monochromatic tradition, but still encompasses a wide range of colors that occasionally peek through the outermost layer of paint.

Sara Möller’s organic sculptures delve into the interplay between fragility and strength, movement and permanence, while at the same time contemplating the very boundaries of the ceramic material. Her process can be described as one characterized by volatility and play, as the creation of new forms come about through a continuous dialogue with the material. Unexpected and playful elements such as feathers, kitchen tools, or even a knife’s edge, are occasionally integrated into her works.

John Rainey, 'Otherland'
The Drawing Schools Gallery, Windsor
20 apr – 19 may, 2024

We are happy to share some highlights from John Rainey's ongoing solo exhibition at the Drawing Schools Gallery, Windsor – marking the end of Rainey's recent residency at Eton College. The exhibition runs through May 19.

"'Otherland' takes us on a tour of a world adjacent to reality, populated by doubles, glitches, shadows and alternatives. Combining forms from Greco-Roman mythology with references to creatures from Irish folklore, Rainey’s shapeshifting mythological mashups are pieced together from fragments to create sculptural collages. These scrambled forms become ways of reflecting on ideas about certainty, our relationships to alternative selves, and the complexity and double-nature of modern Northern Irish identity."

Elizabeth Thun, 'Gränsland', 11.4 – 18.5 2024

Just as memories can influence our perception of a particular place, the use of double exposure in Thun’s work suggests a narrative depth where past and present, memory and reality, coexist within the same image. This approach allows her to explore themes of memory, identity, and the passage of time, all while maintaining a strong connection to the physical landscapes that inspire her work.

Elizabeth Thun (b. 1978) lives and works in Malmö and holds an MFA from Bergen Art Academy, Bergen. Previous solo exhibitions include Berg Gallery, Stockholm (2021), Ljungbergmuseet, Ljungby (2020), Galleri Ping-Pong, Malmö (2019), Galleri Arnstedt, Östra Karup (2018), and Nationaltheatret, Oslo (2013). Andreas Glad, 'Solid Ground'
Sörmlands Museum
11 apr – 15 sep, 2024

"Andreas Glads bildvärld kan framstå som både fascinerande och ödesmättad. Avfolkade platser i ett skoningslöst ljus, återgivna med knivskarp precision. Är det världen efter katastrofen vi bevittnar? Strandvillor, vägar och pooler står som monument över människans storslagna men ödesdigra drömmar. Målningarna öppnar för frågor om människans plats och påverkan på sin omvärld. Men i den omsorgsfulla tekniken och arbetsprocessen bakom verken vilar också något hoppfullt."

11 apr – 18 may, 2024

We are happy to share some installation views from Sara Möller's ongoing exhibition at Peach Corner, Copenhagen. We're also looking forward to present new works by Möller during Market Art Fair this spring. Stay tuned for more updates!

———

"In the exhibition 'Mutated Sea / Trampled Ground', the creative process is cast as the protagonist in an attempt to reach behind the elevated artefact. Ceramic pieces appear alongside raw clay, slip, Jesmonite, textile and wood to form a new, spatial whole. The materials play the role of nature, while the artist’s hand, the human element, ultimately and undeniably controls the composition. But perhaps, these roles are not completely fixed after all? Instead, they move back and forth, flowing, intertwining and fusing into one, as in a dream-like play."

Installation views from Elizabeth Thun's ongoing solo exhibition 'Gränsland'. The exhibition is on view at the gallery until May 18.

Elizabeth Thun’s vivid paintings draw inspiration from landscapes she has traversed, architectural structures, and memories that have made a lasting impression on her. As viewers, we are faced with reinterpreted realities where indoor and outdoor environments seem to overlap and fade into one another, often resulting in a sense of dissolving space. A forest scene may seamlessly transition into the interior of a room, where disparate objects, abstract elements and patterns are carefully woven into the composition.
